have a 94 lumina car the two brake lights in the middle of the bar of the drivers side will not work. Bulbs are fine all others work. When i put on the lights the lighter stage will work but will not get brighter when the brake is pushed? Also what is the procedure for getting to those stupid plugs in the back of the engine?

Some bulbs have two filaments. First guess: one of them is popped. You need new bulbs.

On my 3.4, I pull the hood, (4 easy bolts, one guy "can" do it but easier with two,) pull the dogbone, and rock the engine forward a bit using an OTC special tool and some chain. I use a wobble-drive extension on the spark plug socket. Never done a 3.1, but I bet the procedure is similar. Perhaps one wouldn't need to rip the hood off.

I should have said that the bulbs are new and will work correctly in the other sockets.
