Hello and My First Race

Hello all
Well I just got this car and having never owned a fast car before (Always have had trucks) I was somewhat anxious to see what she could do. I was visiting a friend for a BBQ and while coming home from his house (with wife and son in car) A modded civic hatchback with loud exhaust pulls up next to me and starts reving his engine. I revved back and you should have heard the roar that my flowmasters make. I thought to myself, well my wife is going to kill me but I can't let him disrespect my car like that, so the light changes and I burn through 3 gears and look down and I am doing about 135 when I look into the rearview the civic was way back there so I shut it down but the guy roars past me slows down and tries to go again. At this point my wife is screaming at me, my 3 year old son is screaming with joy, and I have had enough. I was suprised at how fast that civic was though, although I pulled away from him the whole time, he was hanging "somewhat" I guess it really isn't fair though V-8 vs civic 4 but hey I didn't start it. I played around with a Cobalt SS a few days later, That was a quick little car, and on the second go he took me when I completely missed 3rd gear (gotta get a short thow shifter) anyway I am probably too old to be doing this stuff ( especially with my family in the car but DAMN it sure is fun. I went from a 2002 F250 CC 4x4 Lariat ( plenty quick for a tank but no race car) to this mustang and I can't keep my foot off of the gas. Good thing I am in law school so I can go and fight my own tickets (that I know I will be getting soon!)

^true tat, you are never too old to enjoy cars, but imo it has a lot to do with attitude, i've seen a couple mid-age guys with riced out cars, thats where they should leave the ricey style to the kids.....,,,

i've talked to a lot of my cousins who are now upper 20s low 30s yrs old and they used to street race all the time when they were my age, but now they dont anymore, they'd rather enjoy a quiet ride crusing in a nice car than redlining it, i guess it has to do with maturity also...

btw: this topic reminds me of that guy with the grand am, whatever happened to him?

Congrats on the victory, welcome to the board, and nice sounding car you have there.

One thing, though, if I may..............

LEAVE YOUR F__KING 3YR OLD AT HOME IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE RACING A RICER AT 135MPH!!!!!!! or at least get the little sucker a helmet or something. :iceslolan

I believe that is where it came from. I'd like to hope its my unborn child someday getting plenty of practice to make his old man proud on the streets some day. :grinyes: Maybe he'll actually be driving something fast when he turns _____(insert age of legal driver in the future). Of course, he will probably be getting my truck.

yeah im glad you like your new car, but seriously is there something wrong with you? Do you not understand the dangers of going 135MPH with your wife and 3 year old in the car? Would play russian roulette with your family? I prey to god you never do anything that stupid again. For a law student you dont have much common sense.

He needs to be preached to now. What if he buys a neon and decides to take it up to around 200mph?!?!!? Plus its got 4 doors so he might be able to fit grandma and grandpa in that thing along with the wife and kid. Hell, if he doesn't have any brothers or sisters, he could take out the entire family tree having a wreck at over 200!!!!!

I'm starting to feel the plot for a new fast and the furious. Paul Walker has kids, but during a trip home from picking up his youngest from daycare he meets up with Vin Diesel in his new SRT4. The two decide to duke it out in an all out show of speed(from a roll of course). Paul Walker is shifting through the upper gears(BOV singing), when the wing on his 4 door accord is accidentally ripped off from the intense wind pressure of doing 207mph. He looses control and crashes into Vin Diesels neon.....killing everyone instantly. Vin Diesels son vows vengeance on the wife of Paul Walker, so they must race to the death.

Man, I should be writing this sh&t down. :grinyes:

Seriously though....keep the wife and kids at home when you're playing in the mustang.

i don't think flaming him will bring him back though, we def. could use sensible (barring the 3yo incident) mustang owners around here

also if ur 3yo was loving it, you've got some troubles when he gets his license!

eh me too...

Yall are absolutely right about racing with my son in the car, beleive me my wife dished it out much worse than yall ever could. It was stupid but there was no traffic (sunday afternoon) and if I thought there was any risk at all I would not have done it, yes stupid though, (although probably not as dangerous as going 70 on I-45 during rush hour) Still point taken on idiotic behavior, not a shining moment for my intellect. BUT as for the 4 door (I would never drive a dodge though sorry, well er maybe the SRT-8, anyway)I would take my grandparents, except they might drool on the leather and thats a No No.
Someone asked about my car it's an 01 GT 5 speed, and I think I actually hit 4th gear, so I lied a little, but it happened fast so I was not counting.
I just got last semesters grades and I made the deans list so I am celebrating by going to the speed shop at 9 tomorrow and getting 3.73 gears, a tuner SCT? I think is the name, but they put a custom tune on there and also a full K&N FIPK (enstead of just the filter like I have now). Almost 1200 bucks but hey that's what student loans are for right?
Does anyone know about using an handheld tuner, and how it works as far as advancing the timing, running leaner richer etc?

I agree with most people here about the little kid thing, i guess it would be more understandable if you were going a more legal speed. I won't let myself go over 90 in my cars if I have my girlfriend in the car (or if i decide to kidnapp a toddler like I do almost every thursday). For one, if a cop saw you, you could say goodbye to your liscense probably forever. And if you had gotten in a wreck, no law degree will bring your 3 year old son back....

Oh yea and good kill

Mustangs forever! :ylsuper:

I would go see it if they made vin diesel grow a mullet and one of those 70s style porno mustaches. Then he could drive a silverado.....
