friggin' steering knuckle trouble

im trying to replace my axel, and i need to take the steering knuckle out of the lower arm, but i cant get it out. i tried a 2 jaw puller (2 different brands actually but everytime i tried to tighten it, the arms would just pop off) i tried a hammer, and even pulling on it helplessly lol. any tips on getting this out? maybe im just doing it all wrong

Take two ball pien hammers, hit them at the same time on opposite sides of the ball joint. Should pop free after a few whacks.

Go down to your local AutoZone and purchase a "pickle fork", they will know what you mean. It's a two pronged fork that's tapered like a wedge. Just put it next to the boot and use your hammer to knock it loose...any questions about use ask your Auto Zone man...good luck

yeah i heard about that too i just didnt know i could use it for the lower arm also. another thing, how do you get it back in once its out?

put the ball joint through the hole in control arm and tighten nut, simple. Don't forget to re-install or replace cotter pin.

when replacing i hope when you used a hammer you didn't beat on the threaded part of the ball joint without the nut part ways on other wise you may have squished the threads. then if you did that either get a new ball joint or rethread it

ok sweet, i dented a small edge of the bolt but not on the threads, it can be easily tapped. i finnaly got it off, after hammering a bit i used the 2 jaw puller and it came off. thanks alot for the help. now i just gotta get a new axel cuz the dumbass in advance auto gave me the wrong kind. i told him it was wrong before i left but they insisted it was right
