Not sure how many have seen it, but the 2008/2009 Camaro concept was unveiled today! It would be nice to see a kit soon, but how about we see a scratchbuilt one for AFMOY 2007? :D The design possibilities are endless, though I don`t know if you would be able to borrow any parts from any other kit.
These pics were posted on "the other board", and are creating a stir on both sides of the fence!

Saw the story on CNN Headline news this morning. They stated it is a concept car,and means that GM may or may not decide to actually build it. And if they do, it could look different than the actual concept vehicle. If GM had any brains left, they would take this car and immediately put it into production, jumping on the bandwagon as Ford, and Dodge have done. This may possibly be one of the vehicles that pulls them out of the doldrums, and keeps them afloat.

redstang423,
Do you have a Corvette C5-R like this?

The new Camaro will likely use a revised Holden Zeta chassis and will go into production in 2009. The Camaro concept is around 10 inches shorter, in length, when compared to the new Dodge Challenger concept.

The back is fun-kay and the lines are too busy trying to mimick the old cars. Tone it down a bit so it doesn't look like it's spazzing out and it'll be cool. And what's with the knightrider slit in the front?

I haven`t seen any weight info yet. Anyone heard how heavy it will be?

I sometimes wish automakers would start looking to the future more than the past. But hey, if Chevy feels compelled to look back, this concept ain't a bad way to go -- looks pretty sweet. Not quite the presence of the Challenger concept, but both could change considerably before they're produced.

I haven't heard how heavy it will weigh, but I hope it will be under 3,600 pounds or at least less than the new Dodge Challenger. The new Challenger concept actually had this thing attached to it.

The Camaro concept has a leather dash which won't make it to production. The gauges are too hard to read easily.
By 2009 or 2010, the Corvette will likely be refreshed with new wheels, brakes, an engine or two (the new hand-built LS7 is awesome, but a rumored supercharged LS9 is on the way), a revised interior, and what not.
I was at the L.A. auto show last Friday and they showed a red Camaro concept there a coupe of days ago! Ahhhhh!

redstang423,
Do you have a Corvette C5-R like this?
No, the version I'm building is the Yellow/White one, although I like the one in those pictures a little better.
As far as the camaro goes, I'm somewhat nuetral on the styling. The lines look sexy as hell, but the front bumper/grille just doesn't seem to fit the rest of the car to me. Luckily those are most likely to be changed to the production vehicle. I might be a little partial to the mustangs, but right now I'm pulling for any American car company to start making money. Unfortunately, I don't see this concept, or any Camaro, being a life saver we are hoping for. As we saw with the last generation Mustang and Camaro, even if the Camaro is significantly faster, its not gonna put up a big fight against the Mustang. I'm not sure on the exact figures, but didn't the last Mustang outsell the Camaro/Firebird combined around 3 to 1? I'm not trying to start any wars here or get anyone riled up I'm just saying what I fear is the truth. Mustang fans are a pretty loyal group and I just don't see this Camaro stealing away those Mustang fanatics.

[QUOTE=ma51]I sometimes wish automakers would start looking to the future more than the past. But hey, if Chevy feels compelled to look back, this concept ain't a bad way to go -- looks pretty sweet. Not quite the presence of the Challenger concept, but both could change considerably before they're produced./QUOTE]
The automakers seem to be targeting the biggest market out there presently, the baby boomers. This group has a large population with lots of money to spend, It is hoped that giving them something familiar to them when they were growing up, will 'spark' an increase in auto sales. By bringing back memories of high school, or their "first car" and the good times and memories associated with it, the automakers seem to be playing the "nostalgia card" for the time being, even bringing back old nameplates of cars from the past, and putting them on vehicles that don't really reflect the heritage that the nameplate once had.

I saw the pix in the auto show coverage, looks great! It should also noted that GM currently has no plans whatsover to build it at this time, which would be par for the course for the dying giant. Why build something popular that may sell? Maybe when the new owners take over....

GM has revised plans for rwd cars. A new Camaro will likely use a revised version of Holden's Zeta chassis, perhaps debuting in 2009 or 2010.

BEST IN SHOW: Chevrolet Camaro Concept
Only twice in AutoWeek’s long and illustrious tradition of awarding favorite auto show models with big, fat, shiny trophies has a car won by unanimous vote. The first? That would be the Porsche Boxster concept back in 1993, which puts this Chevrolet Camaro in pretty darn good company. We certainly aren’t alone in our admiration. At one point during the press preview, it looked as though the number of top-tier designers from competing automakers outnumbered members of the media swarming about the car. That had to have the bow-tie brass smiling. And if the 400-hp Corvette LS2 6.0-liter V8 found under the concept’s hood makes its way into a production rendition, we will be smiling right along with them. Of course we have to wait a few years to see if it really happens. Fingers crossed.

GM could move quickly on Camaro, design chief Welburn says
By GREG MIGLIORE | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS
1/20/06
DETROIT -- The Camaro concept unveiled by General Motors at the Detroit auto show clearly gets design chief Ed Welburn's blood pumping.
It didn't take much reading between the lines of his remarks at the Automotive News World Congress to get the message that he wants the remake of the classic muscle car to join the Chevy lineup as soon as possible.
GM stopped building the Camaro and its Pontiac Firebird sibling in 2002. The cars debuted as 1967 models.
"It was a vehicle I was very passionate about," said Welburn, GM's vice president of global design.
Welburn wouldn't say whether a decision had been made to put the concept into production. Once GM brass give a vehicle the green light, Welburn noted, it typically takes three years for production to begin.
"But the Camaro isn't a typical car," he said. "I think we could move very quickly. It is a strong design."
Despite Welburn's coyness, it's an open secret that the Camaro is headed for production. The car is based on a rear-wheel-drive platform that will be engineered by GM's Australian Holden subsidiary.
GM sources say the production Camaro will be almost 100 percent true to the concept car. But the interior will be scaled back to allow lower prices for an entry-level V-6 version.
Welburn said he and GM Vice Chairman Robert Lutz wanted the Camaro to be reminiscent of its predecessor, but updated. This suggested a strong Corvette flavor for the project, he said.
The concept is powered by Corvette's aluminum LS2 6.0-liter, 400-hp V-8 [with cylinder deactivation].
Welburn said he was happy to be able to talk about the Camaro, after frustrating months of enforced silence.
GM kept details of the concept shrouded in secrecy for eight months before its debut.
And inside the company, he said, "We never used the word 'Camaro' above a whisper."

Woa, People
This is great News. GM Lives Again to Trump another one. I will pull out my 90 Chevy Camero I-Roc (convertable) jersey and do my SS dance once we get an estimated date for production. Go GM unleash the True Stallions!

General Motors' product czar Robert Lutz doesn't want car clinics to dilute the Chevrolet Camaro concept's styling if the vehicle gets the OK for production.
"There will be no clinics," he told employees at GM's tech center in Warren, Mich., a few days before the concept car's Jan. 10 unveiling at the Detroit auto show.

I know they call concept a Camaro, but I feel that it's not worthy of the name. To me it looks like a sporty cadillac 16. The front end needs to be flattened, I think it's actually too aggresive, but hell I'd still probably buy it :naughty:

The 2003 Cadillac Sixteen concept is a much bigger car than the Camaro concept. It has 24 inch wheels yet it swallows them.

A new Camaro has been confirmed for production. A new rwd Impala will join it along with (perhaps) a new rwd Monte Carlo.

I hope a future Camaro SS is built. It may have a new LS7 in it, but that engine is hand-built ($$$) and features dry-sump lubrication (again, $$$).

I'm a big GM fan, but am I the only one who thinks they are just following the crowd here. I mean, first dodge goes with this kind of styling, then Ford jumps in with the new mustang, finally GM rolls out the camaro, but we won't see if for another year or so. Sure, it looks great will probably scald water, but it's late. Come up with something new, innovative, anything appearance wise. Quit following the crowd completely or at least do so in a more timely manner. Sorry for the rant, long day in the lab.
