Wow! It looks great! It looks sort of S-Classish which is good. It has to be longer and It looks more aerodynamic and flowing. I like it! What models will there be?

If it's a 6.0L it's a V-12. I'm glad to see that AMG is finally moving away from there aged 5.5L V-8.

Plenty of information available at Juergen's www.mbspy.com, including new info about a CLE model "4-door E-Class coupe C219".
AMG model should still be an E55, otherwise the US gets E320 and E500, and I have read rumors that the US will get a nice modern common-rail diesel, as well. If it's well-received, we may finally get more MB diesels in other models, also assuming the diesel-hating tree huggers don't prevent us from getting these more efficient, longer-lasting motors. A common-rail, turbocharged, 4.0 liter diesel V8 in an M class. mmmmm
The tail of the new E does have the "family look" of the new C and S, for better or worse.
The new E has a featured position in Men In Black II.
Here is a computer graphic (not an actual photo) of the CLE

For the E-class AMG trim, they will continue to offer the E55. Except that it won't be a 6000cc V-12 (E60) as suggested, instead it will opt for a supercharged 5400cc engine that is seen in the 2003 S55.

Im not a huge fan of the new E... it's headlamps are too "clean" and make the front of the car look like a bug... the car has a ver startled look about it... give me the previous E anytime...

Pictures should look better cos the photographer can capture the car from whatever angle he chooses, so if Merc are taking the pictures you can rest assured they take them from the most flattering angles. See the E in the flesh, with the standard alloys and it might not look so good. I certainly think it doesnt. It's lost a lot of presence.

I see the new E every single day and the more I look at it, the more presence it gets. I really like it a lot. It certainly makes the previous W210 look dated.

The E-series have been one of my favorite Benz series for the past few years. I've always loved the way they loko, and this one is the nicest out of all. Very nice car.

Now I have conformation, the new accord coupe tails look just like the ones off the eclass ... honda really needs to stop stealing styling from other manufacturers.

All Japanese firms need to stop stealing designs from other manufacturers. Take note, Lexus
Huudo, we'll have to disagree on this one. I prefer the old E.

Depends on which "older" E.
In order of my personal favourite, the listing is:
1. W124
2. W211
3. W210
and of course we can disagree ;)

And disagree we shall! :D
My preferred order is:
1) W210
2) W124
3) W211
the new E (W211) looks startled (from the front) and like a Hyundai from the back. No thank you!

I agree that the new E-class (W211) looks like a startled elf! It should look sleek and dignified like the W124 ('86-'95 E Class). Something about those oval lights make it look goofy!

From the info on this thread, can I assume that you, in the US do not yet have the E320 Common Rail Turbo Diesel engine, well you don't know what you've been missin:frown: As you can see from my profile, I currently drive an E300 Turbo Diesel, and I have driven the E320 turbo diesel. My repair man tells me it out performs it's petrol counterpart both in acceleration and top speed and obviously gives much more mpg, and I am inclined to beleive him. In the UK, the 0-60 acceleration is somewhere in the 8 seconds, or maybe just under and top speed approaching 140mph. I love my estate and will not be changing it for many years. If you tow a trailer or boat, the diesel engine really come into it's own, the high torque is produced at much lower rpm than the petrol engine, although with the air con, it is suggested you install an additional cooloing fan.

Hi Geoff,
I'm waiting to take delivery of my new E-class 320CDI (January build) and can confirm that the diesel figures are 0 - 62.5mph = 8.2sec and a top speed of 145mph. This compares with the petrols figures of 0 - 62.5mph in 8.5sec and a top speed again of 145mph.
These figures do not do justice to the diesel though because it has a much better torque figure and for normal driving will take full advantage of this: Diesel 320CDI 500nm, petrol 320 315nm.
Unfortunately our American friends cannot take advantage of these modern, clean quiet diesels because I believe their diesel has a terribly high sulphur content. (but this is another Kyota type story)
Nice to hear from someone this side of the Atlantic.
Regards,
John
