Since my new (gift) 2000 Cherokee Sport with 55k on it finally started after sitting for 14 months. For a car to sit that long especially the engine and tranny through 5 N.Y seasons in a driveway then come back to life and run as smooth as the day she probably died there. She must be 1 special lady. Now what I'd like to know is what kind of performance enhancers should ( or not) I can put on it. The 4.0 engine has some pretty awesome power for an inline 6. I'd like to just do whats right and not over-do. On the other hand should I just leave it all stock ? I'm talking air-ignition and so forth. Whats best Oil for engine- tranny-transfer case and front/rear end . Simple bolt on out the bag-box. Any links or personal setups will be most appreciated . This is my first quest on a Jeep . Been working on cars , bikes and machines and I do like to stick with what works best. We aint got much money but she can look real purty for what I do have . Thanks ,you guys are some of the best---Chris

Hey Chris,
I use Full Synthetic Oil. I formerly used Castrol Syntec but then I found out that it's not a true synthetic so I use Mobil 1 now (it's real synthetic).
I changed the exhaust with a High Flow Cat and FlowMaster Muffler. Sounds real nice not like a Fart Cannon ( I hate those, lol). Got a Rusty's Air Tube and K&N Filter. Made a Custom Shield outta Aluminum so she sucks in cold air. Added Twin Air Vents in the Hood runs much cooler now. On a sunny day under the right conditions you can see the heat waves exiting the hood!
Added new Sound System, A/V, DVD, CD, MP3, NAV, Games, Internet, Computer, Red Top Optima, High Output Alternator 170Amps, New Paint, Carpet, Tints, Roof Rack (Spares on top), Hella 500 Lights.
If you take care of your XJ she'll last a long time. They were built to last unlike the junk new cars of today built to fall apart in 3-5yrs!
Thx, Phil:smile:

Hey,
The Flowmaster's been on my Jeep since I had the reman 4.0L put in FIVE YEARS AGO! No signs of rust!
Your Flowmaster could have been defective it should have lasted longer. Did you try to get a replacement?
It also helps to undercoat the chassis and for the exhaust system I sprayed with an aluminized high-temp ceramic spray paint.

They usually rust on the welds. Also i talked to a muffler shop and they say that they see the same people every year with rusted out mufflers. then agine we live on Ohio where we get salt, that may have part of the problem.

Since they are talking about the items that they have put on they're jeeps it doesn't look like it would help you out much. For simple bolt on's get a full K&N fuel injection performance kit, Dynamax has a new full catback exhaust for cherokee's and a high flow cat would increase the horse power. If you want to set the stereo up get an Alpine cd player replace all factory speakers and a pair of matching 12's and amp in the back would turn heads.

I was doing some searching the other night for accessories for my 92 4x4 cherokee and found this site that has some of the things available for cherokee's including the bolt on dynomax catback system and their hi-flo cat's. I checked their website and it's not listed on their site but if you want to order it then you can by calling them. I also found it neat about the ACOS system available from off road general store that can give the front of your cherokee 4" of lift. The first link is the main page for the exhaust and info the second link is a site that some things can be ordered from.
