Whats up guys,

I have a 1992 Grand Am, 2.3L OHC-Vin Code 3

Well, about a month ago I was drivin with my stereo loud (1700W Kenwood along with a 12" L7 Kicker) When I noticed poor performance in the engine, I pressed a little on the gas and started hearing a pinging noise and as I pulled off the road it shuts off and lite smoke rise from the hood, I pop the hood and look around after the smoke clears.

I see my headers are Red-Orange HOT!!! :swear:

(Q1)
So my friend matt (stupidest kid in the world) goes and gets water..decides to put it into the reserve for the coolant, okay everything is good until about 3min later there becomes a hissing sound and water starts to leak from the bottom of the car...Did I bust my water pump? Crack a Head?

(Q2)
A month later (today) I went and looked if I ran outta oil. On the dip stick there was signs of oil still so I thought a month later theres still oil im kool. Popped off that stupid integrated ignition system. Saw the plug boots were melted pretty good into new shapes. My plugs look okay except the fact there is oil deposits on them....Did I blow a head gasket?...Oil Pump???

(Q3)
Today as well, along with my observations, I notice a oil looking, gas smelling liquid on the throttle body ring.

I pull the cord to open the butterfly and out comes this liquid that looks like oil but it smells like gasoline :newburn:

Is that bad gas?? leaking into the intake???

I plan to fix this whole problem. :lol2: it'll be fun But i just need to figure out what the 3 following problems are. All answers are GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

P.S.
heres a site to when my car actually ran...

yea the putting of cold water into a ehmm red-orange hot engine could of cracked something...

also, you drove it around after that for a month?
:disappoin

I cant really help you on this one, im sure someone will respond with something logical... all I can say is wow, you just might have alot more problems than you think wrong with the engine, expensive stuff too maybe.

Ok 92 sohc motors are well known for head problems, specifically cracking between the coolant passages and the outside of the head. Pouring cold water into a hot motor, doesn't matter if its overheated or not, will cause the head to crack, maybe not the first or second time you do it, but it will crack. A glowing exhaust means either clogged cat or it was running really rich. I'd go with the really rich situation considering you melted the plug boots. It sounds like your water pump has failed, causing a subsequent overheat that went unnoticed, could have been a bad gauge or sending unit, or just one of those flukes. When you put the cold water in, it caused the head to crack, then running the car will cause oil and gas to mix. Probably the easiest fix is to change the motor as you probably have bearing damage or cylinder damage. Hope this helps.

yeah what he said, either a plugged cat or stuck injector caused it to run bad, then the water pump goes, cold water breaks hot head.

he's right, save money, buy a yard motor to put into it (make sure you put a new water pump & Dealer thermostat too.

I bought a car missing a head, bought the head, put it all back together, spent a month finding the bad power wire to the computer, drove it for exactly 70 miles before it started knocking. New crank, rod, bored block, pistons, valve guides in head, timing chain set, crank position sensor, water pump, thermostat, complete gasket set & its back on the road. All work except machine work done by me, still have over $1000 into it, (its a DOHC)

Oh yeah, good luck finding a SOHC head if you decide to repair it, from what I hear finding a good one is like finding a diamond.
