93' Corsica

I have a 1993 Chevy Corsica and it keeps running hot. My dad looked at it for me and my Radiator fan isn't running. We changed the relay, the fan motor and still it doesn't work. I was told it could be a bad sensor but I don't know. Here are some of the other problems I am expireincing, when the car runs to long, the car stalls and it will start back up however when you put it into gear it stalls. Also when turning it on after sitting in cold weather for some time, it rattles rather loud. I have a bad water pump but that won't make my fan not work. Hopefully someone can help me, thank you.

I will check my service manual on the sensor, but sounds like several problems. The stalling out and stalling in gear sounds like a classic case of TCC (torque converter solenoid) failure. The car shakes and jerks when slowing down after getting hot, stalls. Starts fine but stalls as SOON as put into ANY gear, until it cools again. To test this simply unhook the 4 prong plug on your transaxle. Sits under your air filter box. Remove the filter box, cover first, then filter, hoses, then remove the 13mm bolt in base of filter housing and you should be able to find the 4 prong plug near the top. Unplug it, try it. If this works you have either leave it alone or get it fixed. The car will use a slight bit more gas and feel like you have lost overdrive but will go just fine as is. Cost to get fixed ranges from 150-250 bucks as there is a lot of labor involved for a 20 dollar part. (hard to get to) hard to guess what your noise is, but we just replaced the water pump in our 91 because of the noise. Your belt tensioner will go bad too and make a loud noise. May be both going out. Remove the belt and see if there is any wear / loose parts. What engine do you have, 6 cyl or 4 cyl?

That is very possible. I did not address this as the other problem seemed more important. However it may be a stuck stat, unless the cooling motor never comes on. If the motor does not come on at all (has to get fairly hot) then either motor or sensor screwed up somewhere... Some of these cars seem to always run a little higher than others though, even with everything working OK. My son's 94 Beretta (same motor) ALWAYS ran 1/4 higher than I thought it should, but never overheated. I concluded the guage either was off or the sensor was off slightly. My old 91 Corsica had similar issue, replaced sensor and it went back to normal. Must be sure the cooling fan is working though.
