strange power loss

very strange for me,i was driving back from TN to MO,suddenly i feel my 2000 sonata v6 87000 miles on it ,start lossing power,rpm stays at 3000 but speedo fell from 80 mph to 35 mph,when ever there is uphill climb even a slight one,engine souds so much rpm goes above 3000 but car just did not catch speed, if i press gas padel little harder it sounds like its going to stall,check engine light is not on,car starts right away,did not heat up at all,i took it to autozone but its not giving out any code(since chk engine light is not on) ,any help will be highly appriciated,now car is also hesitating in changing gears from 1st to 2nd and onwards cuz it does not catch speed,does not cross 20 mph mark but enigen sounds so loud when i try to push it over 20mph...PLEASE HELP

You're still well within the powertrain warranty. If it's a consistent problem, let the dealership take care of it before you hit that 100,000 mile mark.

hey thanks for your replay,heres what i figure out,my catylic converter is clogged,i unblot it from engine and everything is fine,little noisey though.

I'm not sure, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the cat is covered under warranty still for this vehicle.. Check on that.

i am told that since i am not a first owner i am not covered under 10 yrs/100,000 miles warrenty,i have to buy an extended warrenty,please somebody help me verify this...thanks

It wouldn't be covered under that. I don't know if your car was before it was passed.. but is there not a law saying that companies have to give warranties on cats specifically for a certain number of years?

It seems reasonable that the cat could cause something like that. That's not exactly a car that you want to be noisy, so just take it to an exhaust shop. That's usually cheaper than taking it to the dealer.

Just wwent thru same thing w/my moms car. She has a 2001 Elantra and cat converter went. There are actually 2 on the sonata also.I guess there is 1 in front and then another inside the pipe w/the flex joint. Called dealer and they told me part is $800 plus labor for abt $1000, so I asked abt warranty, they 1st said no due to her mileage was 63,000 but I then told them I read the warranty manual on my Sonata and it said something about Federal Emmissions warranty and 80,000 miles. They then looked more on computer and came back and said Oh Yeah, your right, so needless to say they are ordering part and will be put in this thursday. SO BEWARE!!!!! If I never read my manual I would never has questioned it and she would have got stuck paying $1000.
Boy I think she owes me a trip to a casino for the money I saved her---LOL!!!

Awesome to hear that I was right, thought so. And congrats on getting it under warranty! And actually, as far as I know the first cat is actually built into the manifold, and then the second is in the usual location.
