Dakota will not start

I have a 95 Dodge Dokata, 3.9L, automatic, that will not start. It is not getting any fire from coil. I have put on a new coil and coil wire. Any ideas would be welcome.

Bad Crank or Cam Position Sensor?

...but it does crank??? How's the power going to the coil? Checked ALL your fuses?

i seem to be having the same problem my dad bought a 91 dakota 2 days ago and it ran the night he bought it and the next day it would not start aso seemed like it wasnt getting any spark i also dupmed gas into the throttle body and still nothin and today went out and it started up after a couple of tries and took it for a little ride come back home home waited for it to cool so i could check the spark plugs and distributor cap they all basically new along with the coil and ignition module, also the engine light is onthe guy they bought it off of said the light been on for 2 years and when it is damp outside it wont strat u have to turn the key on and off 4 times or somethin of that nature and it will start but tried it and it didnt the day they brought it home it was rainin the next day a lil bit of snow which is the day it wouldnt start, and today it dry and warm. so any suggestions, and how do u scan the computer on a 91 dodge pick up

Could be a bad pick-up asm in the distributor or maybe a bad fuel pump. Try this procedure to retrieve error codes.

The CHECK ENGINE lamp can also be used to display fault codes that have been stored in the engine controller's memory due to a system failure. To display codes with the CHECK ENGINE lamp, cycle the ignition switch ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON within five seconds and all of the fault codes stored will be displayed in a series of flashes representing digits. Fault codes can also be extracted using the DRB II or an equivalent scan tool.

ok i checked the fuel pump and it was workin and its not gettin any spark so if it is the pick up will i be able to buy it seperate or will i have to buy a new distributor and where is the ignition module located i thought i found it but it was somethin else

You can get it seperate at any parts store.

ok i changed the pick up and its getting plenty of gas and it was running yesterday ran it around shut it off it would start back up after u hit the gas while starting it and today nothing. it seems to want to start but won't even starting fluid wont work even though i hate to use it. i seen in here also people with similar problems about the cranks sensor where is that located

I have a 94 with 150k and went through this same nightmare. I lucked out one day and came across a thread about a bad wiring harness. I was just about to buy crank sensor and looking into a new computer, but i gave it a chance and this worked. I really think this will fix your truck. Unbolt relay fuse box under hood and trace wiring harnes 1 foot back, unwrap tape and locate a wire splice a couple reds and a red with white stripe. this is a bad connection and rots out, mine fell apart in my hand make a new solid connection and resolder and run it. It goes bad on these trucks. It will save you hundereds. Only the dealerships know how to fix this one.

ok i looked but i found nothing with the red and red/white wires thus far i'll look again tomorrow when i have more light but i did find three wires connected together i guess they was connected to an inline fuse that i also found not connected theyt were rotted apart they ran from the ac clutch/rad fan, starter relay and the ac clutch relay, also when i checked the coil it ran at the time and the coil got juice like it should and i checked it again and both sides would get juice as soon as u turned the key for about a split second then nothing after that it just cranks over and there is nothing from the coil.

still sounds like the same problem I had. Those three wires definitely fed the auto shutdown relay, which I think has something todo with your spark issue. It was about a foot from the relay box, u have to unbolt the box because the splice is almost directly below it. the problem is about in the middle of the wire cluster.

ok its me again the truck has been starting now since it got warm out been starting since june, even when its raining out. been checking wires all over still nothing out of the ordinary. what would cause it not to have spark when its cold outside.

I was wondering if anyone knew where this info is on these bad wire harness connections and if this is also found on other models, particularly a 99 Durango, and a 96 Neon. I am having similar problems with both of these along with my 94 Dakota.

My Dakota turned out to be bad contacts inside of the starter solenoid. I haven't had any trouble since changing them. This bad wire harness thing may have helped some but hasn't done anything for me. The minivans have a bad wire harness thing and it is supposed to be the blame for some shifting issues but every time I tear into one I find the splice to be just as clean as the day it was wrapped
