my plastic model has been affected by something?

Hi,

After a bit of a disaster whilst priming I removed all the paint with alchohol. After removing most of the paint i saw what i can best describe as wrinkles in my plastic. I have no idea what has caused this! I think it is also affecting the new primer i am putting on, as i know this primer is fine as i have put it on other pieces from the kit without a problem. I don't have a pic as yet but has anyone heard of this kind of thing happening to their models???

Thanks

What kit is this? Is it a new Revell kit by any chance?
There have been several reports lately on AF of new evell kits reacting badly with some paints and primers.

The primer probably 'crazed' the plastic...you just didn't notice it with he primer covering the effect.

Did you clean the body with soap and water before spraying? I always do this to prevent funny things happening to anything I spray when I do modelling.

Hi guys.....

Its an old Tamiya Jordan 191 formula one model kit.

The primer i am using says it is suitable as an undercoat for lacquer, enamel or acrylic paint. I have used the primer on other parts of the kit with no problems and have started doing topcoats on the other parts of this kit.

The only thing I did previously was to decant some primer for use in my airbrush and thats where things started to go wrong with this piece. I suppose it is possible that the decanted primer was 'bad' somehow and started destroying the plastic perhaps. not sure really. But As suggested in my previous thread, I think i'll leave it in the can from now on.....

And yeah i did clean the part with soap and water too. not something i normally do either.

Don't suppose anyone has a spare cowling for the jordan 191???? :loser:

Thanks

the primer might have been too hot for the plastic. I've had this happen with Krylon primer, and I stopped using it.
