ok I am thinking of supercherging my MAX becuz I am keeping it now not selling it. Anyways I heard rumors that it is bad for the engine if you are an everyday driver with the supercharger?? THis is probaly not true but i am not sure so I asking people who have superchargers to let me know. ANy info. would be helpful in my quest to get supercharged.:D :D

you got a manual or auto tranny? I heard that it is not good for the stock auto tranny and that it might go out real quick if you dont get a better torque converter.

Ya I unfortunately have an auto and it shifts awful. Anyways I am stuck with the auto but need the supercharger so I need to find out how bad this is for the engine.

Well first off, if you already have tranny problems, then you probably don't want boost, it will just finish the job off... If you do get boost, you need a VB mod, and a tranny cooler at the least... As far as engine wear goes, it will be increased, anytime you increase power like that their will be extra wear, but as long as you take care of your engine (ie, don't drive like a madman all the time, regular oil changes, spark plugs, etc...) You shouldn't experience a serious decrease in the life of your engine...
:D

I meant that I have an auto and the tranny isn't a fast shifting one. It is a 30,000 mi. old tranny so it is fine. I drive a lot of miles and don't know if the car can handle the extra boost. Will I have to change the pulley's as well.

Do a compression test on your car, or have one done, if the psi is within specs for all cylinders, then go for it. As far as changing pulleys, no, you cannot, if you do it will mess up your boost... ;)

I don't care what you have heard, there is nothing wrong with having a SuperCharger on a daily-driver. Go for it.

A UDP will decrease boost, but a smaller SC pulley will increase boost.
Matt is technically correct. Changing the SC pulley will mess up boost... for good at least. :)

just start running synthetic oil in the car and make sure to keep the oil resevoir in the actual supercharger full and you'll be fine. I've seen a supercharged maxima se with 200,000+ miles.

the kid who was talking about getting a supercharger for his 97 max was worried about too much wear and tear on his engine from a supercharger.
I was just saying that if he uses synthetic oil (preferably mobil 1) in his car, it will prolong the life of his car and superchrager.

Right but you can't control how much oil is in the SC reservoir.

I know, but if you're changing your own oil there will be about 1/2 qt in the s/c resevoir that will need to be drained.

Just so you know, the vortech S/C does not have a 'resevoir' per say... sure it uses oil to lubricate, but it doesn't store it, that's why it has oil lines, to feed it fresh oil, and it certainly doesn't 'hold' half a quart. My buddies car hardly took any extra oil at all when adding the S/C... Straight off of vortechs website: High pressure engine oil is used for cooling, lubrication, and very low maintenance.

listen,
don't try to insult my intelligence with stupid subject headings. (i.e digging yourself a hole...) My father has a supercharged 5.7 liter 350 cubic inch chevy engine which used to be in his boat. on the tippy top of this 900+ horsepower beast, which coincidientally is going into a 1940 ford, is an oil resevoir strictly for the supercharger. it takes gear oil but it's an oil resevoir and it needs to be changed regularly.
P.S
not all superchargers are made by vortech. There are mulitple different methods of doing things.
so dig YOURSELF a hole and bury your head so i can kick you in the ass :flipa:

Ohhh, nasty nasty aren't we? Real tough guy on the internet? Good for you. I simply said you were digging a hole because you sound like a jackass making remarks about a S/C you know nothing about. Some ATI superchargers only have a resevior, no feed lines. WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH A MAXIMA? You said, and I quote: make sure to keep the oil resevoir in the actual supercharger full and you'll be fine. I've seen a supercharged maxima se with 200,000+ miles. end quote. Now show me the resevior on a Supercharged Maxima! Fool, don't come at me with all that attitude. I try to help people out on this board, to educuate them, not fill them with meaningless ramblings and bullshit. Have you run 100 shot of nitrous on your maxima, a 13 second 1/4 mile, or put a 5spd tranny in your automatic car? Rebuilt engines, made a VW bus with a wheelie bar that was REQUIRED! Your father has this and that, SCREW YOU You have what you showed me to be a meaningless knowledge base. What do you have? Even better, what do you have to offer other than the crap youve posted? Ask for my help ever, need help with your car, or advice. Look at all the post on here and see how many people can help you with anything other than lightbulb selection. Get off your high horse sunshine, class was in session and you failed... Congrats on alienating one of the only people who can help you on this damn board!:D

Ah, so your only 19. That explains everything. Show me another post on this forum where it looks like I belittled someone? Best advice on supercharging a higher milage car? Perform a compression test. If everything test good, boost away. That's the best advice you could have given him. But since your a teenager, I'm sure you already knew that, since teenagers know everything. Why do you think Kev (Y2kevse) asked you to explain what you were talking about? Because it made no sense. If I go along blabbing my mouth about something I obviously know nothing about, I hope someone corrects me so I stop sounding like a jackass. Bought your first car at 17... So? What does that have to do with anything? I bought my first car at 18. What does that prove? My maxima is my 3rd car, that proves.... nothing.... BTW, I'm a helicopter mechanic and crewchief, and I'm only 24. I really don't know that much about cars when compared with an auto mechanic, but I can hold my own with most hobbiest. My of my experience is working on CH-46E transport helicopters in the Marine Corps for 5 years, now I work and fly on CH-47D transport Helicopters in the National Guard while I try and put myself through college.

I'm sorry if I sounded like I was jumping on you, that wasnt my intent, nor was any insult intended, and I'm certainly not the car authority on this forum. But that's not what you said. You said to keep the reservoir full. That's not correct.
And no, you do not need to change any oil in the SC when you change your engine oil. http://forums.maxima.org/images/smilies/ne_nau.gif

1.) I'm not, I'm correcting you where you are wrong. I am trying to help. Help you learn as well as let other's reading about this stuff for the first time know the truth.
2.) Wrong again!! There is NO seperate tank and there is NO gear oil. There is an oil feed line that "T's" into the oil pan and is fed into the Vortech. It uses the engine oil. No seperate tank, no gear oil.
3.) O.k. :)

Dude, drop it. You have embarrASSed yourself enough as it is. Nobody ever said all superchargers are the same. Nobody. We aren't talking about 'all superchargers'. We are talking about a Vortec/Stillen supercharger for the NISSAN MAXIMA. And oddly enough, this is a NISSAN MAXIMA forum. Weird, huh?

No, before you started MORE bull shit, we were talking about how much damage, if any, a supercharger would cause on a high mileage maxima engine and i told him to keep it lubricated and it shouldn't matter. Then me and what's his face started arguing about the oil resevoir.
But after all was settled between me and the other kid, you started.
So you drop it.

You know what kills me about you? That you can't see how wrong you are, admitt it, and drop it. You keep arguing something that is inarguable! Quite funny actually. Thanks for the laugh. This has nothing to do with the 'other kid'. Let's take this chronologically:
Thread start: 97GLEMAX asks if supercharging is bad on the engine of a daily driver. Note he says he wants to get a supercharger for his MAXIMA (key word: MAXIMA).
... a few pages of talk blah-blah...
Then on page three you write: "just start running synthetic oil in the car and make sure to keep the oil resevoir in the actual supercharger full and you'll be fine. I've seen a supercharged maxima se with 200,000+ miles."
WRONG!!!!!! There is no reservoir in the supercharger!! And yes, we are talking about a MAXIMA supercharger.
Then I called you on that and you said: "I know, but if you're changing your own oil there will be about 1/2 qt in the s/c resevoir that will need to be drained."
WRONG!!!! There is no 1/2 qt oil in the SC (and yes, we are talking about the MAXIMA still).
Then mtrai corrects you and sets you straight and you jump all over him. He was right, you were wrong.
Then you two go back and forth for a while and then I correct you on your 'reservoir and 1/2 qt'. I was being nice/friendly, I was just correcting you. (Remember, we are still talking about the Nissan MAXIMA - this is a MAXIMA forum).
Then you get hostile over me correcting you and you still claim a seperate tank for the oil!! Oh brother.
Then you try to claim you are talking about another SuperCharger. Yeah sure!!!! We are all talking about a Stillen/Vortech SC for the Nissan MAXIAMA. PERIOD. You are the only one who is talking about other SC's - and even that was only after you were told you were wrong about the reservoir.
Do you you have a SuperCharger on your MAXIMA? Have you installed a SuperCharger on a MAXIMA? Have you seen one in person? I didn't think so. :P

This is the original post on page one.
"ok I am thinking of supercherging my MAX becuz I am keeping it now not selling it. Anyways I heard rumors that it is bad for the engine if you are an everyday driver with the supercharger?? THis is probaly not true but i am not sure so I asking people who have superchargers to let me know. ANy info. would be helpful in my quest to get supercharged. "
i never see the word vortech anywhere.
Go to blowerdrive services web page(www.blowerdriveservice.com/tech) and look at tech specs (FAQ)
The question is if the individual can run an oil line from the engine to the supercharger and the answer is...
A: BDS recommends using a self-contained, 90 wt. Heavy duty gear oil lubrication system. Contaminating the engine oil in the motor with 90 wt. Oil can cause some engine lubrication problems and increase the likelihood of detonation.
I am done with this thread. everyone move on.

It kills me that you just can't see/admitt that you are wrong. No it doesn't say Vortech anywhere but you know what, anyone educated on MAXIMAs in the slightest (not you obviously) knows there is one and one only SuperCharger made for the Nissan Maxima. It goes WITHOUT SAYING! You show me one Nissan Maxima with a supercharger other than the Stillen/Vortech. Just one. And I'll eat my words and kiss your feet. But I don't have to worry about that. You know why? There exists this many custom supercharghed Maximas: ZERO. Nice try though.
