So i got a ticket for my exhaust being too loud back when i had my Tsudo n1 muffler on. I got it changed to a stock GST muffler, and this past weekend went to the California Referee Station to get it tested for decibel level. so the guy gets my car in place, and starts jotting stuff down about the car. he pops my hood and pulls out the dipstick. he has a puzzled look on his face. he puts it back in and then pulls it out again. he asks me to come over and shows me that my dipstick isnt registering any oil. oh shit. last time i got an oil change my oil was about a 1/4 of a quart low. but this time i had to put 2 quarts to fill it back up. i havent noticed any spills on the ground, but i do have very bad lifter tick. im thinking the only thing that could be wrong is im burning oil, and its getting worse. what can i do? engine rebuild?

How many miles? No smoke anywhere? So you burn oil. You lost any power? Overheated? Got rod knock? Anything bad at all? Check your oil more often and just drive on ;). Sell that bitch and get turbo'd.

almost 97k miles. no smoke. no loss of power (cause there is none). no overheating either. just really REALLY bad ticking.

:lol:

Have you checked under the car yet? I've got a slow oil leak myself, but its so slow you can't tell its leaking just by looking at the ground, but when you jack it up you can oil outside of the bottom end of the engine. I know its my headgasket seal leaking.

i havent checked under the car yet. but 2 quarts in like 2300 miles seems like a lot of oil to leak without seeing any spots.

Mikes car has the same problem! No funny smelling/ blue exhaust or drops on the ground (would be pretty evident with the snow). The oil just goes bye-bye. Ours actually died though, and now wont start. So we get to rent a garage at a rental place and rebuild the bitch. I think that bad rings and valve seals are the only things that can cause it to burn oil right? If it runs ok, I wouldnt worry. Man, I really fuckin hope Mikes car didnt have a rod knocking. I would do a compression test and see whats going on in there.

Rebuild kits from SBR are $500. Let me find the link.

EDIT: http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=1090&;

We are going to get that kit for Mikes car. It seems to be really complete and I like how it has a new timing belt and all that other little shit.

yeah... ummm. definitely not interested into putting that much money into my car (salvage title, plus another recent side swipe). so ill just drive it till it blows up. :smokin:

Do a compression and leakdown test. Even if you don't really notice it, you could easily be burning oil through the exhaust.

where would i go to get a compression/leakdown test? just a local mechanic or what?

check out the vfaq for the procedures. If you're uncomfortable, any mechanic can do it.

That's what I was trying to say. Not to many places that oil can go if it is not a leak. Worn rings, valvestem seals, etc. So if it isn't acting funny just drive it. Don't blow your money on compression tests. It may drive another 100,000 miles, you never know. By the time it craps the bed, you could probably have enough saved to get another car if you don't waste it on trying to fix this one. :2cents:
