1994 Camry - Center Console POWERLESS

I have a 1994 Toyota Camry and slowly my center console is going caput.

At first I noticed my radio wasn't working properly, then just the other day, the radio stopped, the cigarette lighter and clock weren't working either.

I first assumed it was a fuse, but I cannot find a fuse box anywhere inside that car....I checked the beneath the wheel, the passenger side....nowhere to be found.

But I also don't know if there's a disconnect somewhere else....can anyone help?

I don't know how much longer I can deal with either me talking to myself or listening to other cars passby.

The fuse box is behind the storage pocket to the left of the steering wheel. Pull that out and you can acess the fuse box. There is also a fuse box under the hood. Sounds like you do have a blown fuse.

Hit reply too soon. If the radio wasn't working properly to begin with, and *now* you have blown a fuse....replace the fuse. If it blows right away, then unplug the radio and replace the fuse again. If the fuse *doesn't* blow, then you've got a radio that needs to be replaced.

You are a lifesaver!!! It was exactly that. I replaced the fuse and all is well.

If I only knew how to replace the antenna (it no longer goes up), i'd have a brand new car.

I really appreciate the information.

No problem. Glad to help. You can access the antenna from the trunk. Just pull back the carpet on the right side. You might have to pull some plastic push clips that hold the carpet in place. Antenna is right there. Unbolt that. Then, the little silver part that the antenna hides in on the outside of the car screws off. Then you can just drop the antenna down, unplug it and remove it. I recomend getting a factory stock antenna to replace it. You can get universal ones, but they often don't fit quite right.

If you can still hear the motor working, you just may have to replace the mast. The mast is $17 at Pep Boys. It's around $40 from the dealer. Does the motor still work? Do you hear any sound. If so, you can remove the whole assembly like InstallTech described and then disassemble it to remove the old mast. Then you can reinstall the whole assembly, minus the mast and minus the ring on top of the rear fender. Now turn the car on and the radio on. Now have someone turn the radio off while you feed the new mast in. It should grab the geared pigtail (this will be obvious when you see the replacement mast) and bring it all the way down. Now screw back on the ring and you are done. There should be instructions and pictures in the generation 4 manual posted at the top of this forum.

Good luck.

Mike
