I just purchased a 98 Eclipse with 94K,this car has very bad exceleration and backfires once in a while. Now to explain when you start off at an idle it take some time to excel it is like something kick in and give it a short burst of energy and then back to poor exceleration this does this regardles of hot or cold. This is a ebay car that I drove 650 miles to my home. In searching I found alot about the IAC and the TPS, does anyone think this could be my problem or please point me in the right direction.
Thank you
Thank you

Backfire makes me think ignition system problems. Put your car info in your signature to save time in the future, WHEN you have your next problem.

Check your plugs and make sure they are ok, I would probably replace them regardless to be safe. Check your plug wires. Check the coil. Try those 3 things first, like loeman said a backfire is usually an ignition issue

Replaced plugs and wires and the car runs 100% better, still smells a little rich but I can't complain.

Theres your problem for running rich. Wrong plugs my friend. Unless you feel like dropping another $12 on the correct plugs, don't worry about it.
