Bad mildew odor for HVAC system in 2005 Altima. Noticing it more, now, in the winter months. Located in New York City area. Any thoughts?

Look for something like this on the shelf at AutoZone.

Also you have a cabin air filter similar to the filters used in home central heating and cooling systems. Maybe search Ebay for both filter and freshener treatment.

BTW-- You can prevent it from occuring again, atleast any time soon, by letting the fan blow air out without A/C on, helps to prevent moisture buildup.

I've been doing that and it does seem to help.

I'm wondering if I might have a clogged drain on the A/C evaporator. Does anyone know where the drain is located and if it can be probed with a wire to clear a clog?

1. Remove the fresh air filters behind the glove compartment.
2. Turn the fan on high with the RECIRCULATE option off
3. Spray in a bathroom mold-mildew killer (lots of it if it's really bad) and let the air draw it through the system
4. Open all of the windows, turn off the car, and leave it parked for a day.

My wife's was particularly stubborn and this is what finally worked.
