2002 Explorer Sport Hatch Latch Problem

My wife has an Explorer Sport. The latch for the cargo door is broken. There is no resistance; it just flops around when you try to use it. Obviously the door will not open. It appears you have to have the door open to remove the interior panel. How am I going to get inside this door to see what the problem is? :frown:
