Oil pressure question

Alright, as many of you already know, I bought a 99.5 b5 from an online salvage auction. The car finally arrived at my teachers bodyshop a few days ago. He called me up and said one of the only problems he sees with the car is that theres a whole in the oil pan from the previous owner running over something and piercing it. Now, my question is this; Does my audi have a failsafe to shut off the engine and not let it start when it has no oil pressure. I dont want to have to re-build the bottom end of this thing. Hopefully someone here knows??

i dont know about the shut off (though something like that sounds like its very probable), but i wont think youd have to rebuild much of anything if the oil pan has a hole in it. i guess i dont know where the hole is, but replacing the oil pan is cake. mine cracked after i had juffy lube do an oil change, and i changed it myself with ease and i had very little experience working on cars. just replace the oil pan and see if it starts up.

I was just worried that after the oil pan hit whatever it did and put that hole in it, all the oil drained out and maybe the car kept running, ruining the bearings at the least. Thats why I might have to rebuild and want to know if theres a cut-off switch or not

i have pirced a oil pan my self and the car will recive a warning light saying low oil and will not shut off..... if the previous owner was smart enough to pull over and check for somthingyouare in the clear.... how ever to make you feel better i did not run competly out of oil so there is a possibility i can turn off
