I simply cannot enjoy a Tarantino film; I find the level of violence too disturbing.
Yes, I recognise the use of exaggeration and satire in the violence and I understand the point, but I can't comfortably stomach it.
I do respect Tarantino though, for not making predictable formula movies like everyone else in Hollywood.

Bah. Pretty much the same thing as every other "horror movie" of the past few years. They've all mostly drawn from the Japanese Horror formula -- and the well has become pretty dry. I give them credit for the premise, and it's got some witty moments, but overall I'd suggest you just wait for it to come out on DVD.
Quick, if you can guess which horror movie I'm describing, you win the prize:
-People get tortured to death in dank, poorly-lit chambers of terror. The "operation" is performed by a freaky ex-surgeon who was denied/rejected on grounds of a physical flaw/psychotic behavior -- now played out upon hapless victims who's last sight in life is a single sputtering lightbulb, a layout of surgical equipment and power tools, and a man in a butcher apron.
If you guessed "any blockbuster horror movie made in the last half a decade or so", good call!
Of course, this isn't to be confused with the other half of the genre, which substitutes a psychotic butcher-surgeon and dank, grotesque pseudo-medical facilities, for a freaky child/children, grainy footage (digitally produced, of course) and heavy use of jerky, jump-cut footage to make someone appear "chilling".
I'm not sure why Tarantino put his name to this one, as it generally lacks the originality inherent in a majority of movies he's involved with.
At least the theater I go to is reasonably priced.

(WARNING SPOILERS)
I just got back from seeing it and I tell you, it's something else.
Oh, so everybody knows, Tarantino really didn't have much to do with this. His name was put on it to get a bigger crowd, and it worked. It was #1 at the box office this weekend.
It has a good story to it I'll give it that. It's different from other horror movies.
In Hostel, extremely wealthy and over privileged businessman can buy something they won’t soon forget: another human being’s life. Americans are expensive, but if you’re open to the ethnicity of your purchase, you can get a human for a fairly reasonable price.
We follow these American tourest who are told about this hostel in which the women will do anything to you. Since they're horny and eager they go and find these beautiful women doing anything for them.
The girls are really part of an elaborate business, called Elite Hunting, designed to seduce young tourists into partaking in certain activities which lead to them getting drugged up, unconscious, and relocated to a desolate, abandoned warehouse where they are chained to a chair and tortured to death by clientele.
Now this movie has a shit load of boobs in the first half hour. So if you're wanting to see lots of boobs and sex, this thing is almost a porn.
The second half though we see the gore.
Here is what we get to see:
a woman's toes cut off by bolt cutters
a guy gets his shoulder drilled into with a hand drill
a guy's achiles tendants are cut, he's then forced to walk and fall due to that
a woman's eye is burnt out with a blow torch and it hangs on her face
the eye is cut off which shoots puss all over the place
a guy's fingers are cut off with a chainsaw
a guy gets hit in the shoulder several times with a garden claw
lots of vomiting
a man's fingers cut off with a scapple
a man's head shoved into a toilet, nearly drowning before his throat is slit
a guy cut open with his guts on the table
a guy's head is bashed in with a rock
people getting run over by a car
a woman getting hit with a train and shooting blood and guts all over the people waiting
one part though we see stuff in each room, some guys getting shocked, others cut, others skinned alive, all sorts of stuff
All in all, I give this movie a C.
I've seen films with more gore, more scare, and more suspense.

Hmm...I thought that the plot was good, but the movie was terrible.
I know what boobs look like, so that got old fast. And the people I went with ruined it for me as well.
Too predictable. Not worth my money. The previews made it seem like it was going to be a lot scarier than it really was. All in all, just another teenage horror flick with no depth.

Honestly if you're expecting a half-way decent movie don't even bother. I went to go see it on opening night but it was sold out. I went a week later and really it is a waste of your money. Like every fucking gore scene in the movie is in one of the previews. The storyline is alright but if you're expecting a gore/decent horror show then save your money for something else because this ain't it. Tarantino didn't do a fucking thing with this movie except pay for it. I wasn't expecting much as I wasn't impressed with Hero, but got even less out of this movie. If you wanna see some pretty hot chicks and bunch of tits, and a few muff shots then go check it out. If you want to be scared, pass on this one. Peace-

I can't believe hardly anyone thought it was a "good" movie? Yes, the whole first half was a lot of partying, and boobs, but I felt it fit into the movie very well. It didn't seem like a shameless input of porn.
The characters scripting as well was good IMO. I didn't find it cheesy, or average teenager horror filmish either. I've seen alot of horror movies using the same stupid characters with story know one gives a shit about. This one did not fall into the category.
Some people say it's too over the top with the gore, but I really felt like the gore was held back quite a bit. The images you see are tastefully integrated into the movie.
The ending wasn't spectacular, but it didn't really need to be. So many movies draw out some bullshit ending when the obvious ending will usually work just fine.
I really think every part of the movie was good. no complaints. It wasn't overly spectacular movie, but very satisfying.
A very strong
B+

I actually was disappointed. Lots of T & A in the being (which was nice). But the ending really wasn't that suspenseful IMO. I sorry I guess I just expected more gore and suspense in a movie like that.

This isn't actually a film made by quintin tarentino (sp?) imo this movie was trash, a sad attempt at what could have been a good film. The first half was porn and the 2nd half was a slaughterhouse, i didn't enjoy it and neither did anyone at the theatre, i think maybe the part where there's revenge, aside from that, nothing much to see
