Hello everyone, I am new to this website. Just wanted to ask a few questions. I have a 93 trans am. but I was looking for something awd and a stick trans. anyway my buddy at work has for sale a 93 vr4. it is black and a 5 speed. he bought it from his boss. on his way home he filled it up and drove it for over an hour home no problems. when the gas tank got to 3/4 and 1/2 it died out. it will start up later and run anywhere from 10-20min. and then die. he said the fuel pump relay would chatter right before it died. he replaced it, on the pass side of the shifter console. still does same thing. he is not very mech. inclined so he kind of gave up on it, I can get the car around 1100.00 runs great when it runs. looks like new still. so I thought I would pick up this steal. do you think it could be the fuel pump, heating up when it is over the fuel level, I was thinking the fuel would keep it cool. then when the level drops it would heat up and shut off. does this sound right? or do you think it could be something else. I would hate to buy something that would have a major problem. thanks for the help guys.

I'd say it has a major problem. You should stay away and give me his contact info:)

I'm not sure what it would be. It doesn't sound like anything too serious. I do know that you would have no problem at all making over $1100 if you parted it out. Parts cars don't usually go that cheap and they usually have lots of body damage and serious problems.

Do the fuel pumps kinda go out on these..

but it seems like the fuel pump. when full it will run fine, when tank drops down to 1/2 and 3/4. it will die, wait awhile will run for around 15-20 min. and then die again. I heard something about the fuel pumps not getting enough voltage also, could that be it, maybe fuel pump getting hot and shuting off... if you guys don't know do you know where I can go on the net to maybe find some tech info? I tried 3si.org, but for some reason it won't let me register, and the administrator apparently dosen't have time to email me back to get me on..thanks for your time guys...

I havn't heard of your problem before, but it's not the voltage that is the problem. If it were, it would be dependent on your rpms and idling, not how full/empty the tank was.

I'd say get hte car and work out the problem, because if the car is in good shape, that is a good deal.

And as far as 3si, you can't use a free web-based email, such as yahoo or hotmail. You have to use the one your internet source provider gives you, like msn or aol.

thanks for the info..I will use my aol account...
I am going to pick up the car next week. It should be a hopefully simple repair.. I hope it will give my trans am a run..I am putting around 280hp. at the rear wheels..

Well if it can beat a 13.5 at 103 then yes it can beat my ta...
only time will tell..it should be close..the vr4 seems to be kinda heavy atleast by the specs. my ta weighs 3800 with me and full tank. hp. is around the same but I don't have the drivetrain loss. with it having the awd. I really hope this new vr4 works out. and is pretty quick, then I will sell the trans am.. :evillol:

The VR4s are all around 3800 to 4000 lbs driver excluded... and yea they do have drivetrain loss due to awd, but I'm told that it isn't as bad as you'd think...
