HELP.....Overheating 93 Golf...

I have a 1993 VW Golf 2.0L. I has been running fine most of the time.. Now I have this problem with it overheating. The hose that comes out of the Engine to the rad gets very hot and the bottom still cold. I replaced the thermostat last year and was running fine. Today I took it all apart thinking it was the thermostat again, but I boiled it and it opened. There is no blockages in the cooling hose from engine to radiator. I flushed out the radiator and the coolant came out brown. I believe that it might be the water pump but would like some other input before I make the trip to the store.. There is also no heat inside of the car. I'm at my witt's end.. Can somebody please help me???

If you've ruled out the thermostat, and other blockages in the cooling system, I would say pump definitely. Let's hope you didn't warp the head...

All I know is that once you begin to overheat one of these engines it is never good. You can try to replace the water pump and it may fix the problem. Unfortunately it is pretty easy to wreck the head gasket or warp the head once you overheat it. If you replace the water pump and you still have problems, you should replace the ehad gasket and machine the head and get it pressure tested. Then you will know the extent of the problem.

heres a tip, it sounds dodgey but it does work, if you take a thermostat off a ford transit van it stays cool the thermostat on a van kicks in at about 80 so if you fit one then youl be sorted that what i did on my mk1 golf anyway.
