Any way to smooth bumpy paint?

I have been paintnig my Revell C6 Corvette with Testors (I know, I know) Classic Black in a can. It is all bumpy and looks semigloss instead of glossy. I am on like the seventh coat and I cannot get it to smooth out.
If you are wondering I have built over a hundred cars and have *never* had this much trouble with the finish. It looks rediculous. I usually use Tamiya cans but they were out of the black and it was on backorder so I picked up the Testors, big mistake. And yes I primed with enamal primer like I always do.
Anyway is there some sort of rubbing compound that I can smooth the paint out with and then wax it to a shine or am I going to have to strip it and start over? I have many grits of sandpaper though I am afraid to use that.
Thanks

That bit in the FAQ about polishing out a paint job should help you.

Never mix Testor Enamel with Tamiya Lacquer.. Big trouble :D
Strip the paint and wait for Tamiya paint.
