Hiya everyone on AF. I'm new here (so be nice, lol).

I wasn't going to share this with anyone as it's my very first model since I was about 12yrs old (I'm 21 now) and I never took it very seriously back then, but now I've been looking at all your work here and I'm inspired to do a decent job, I'm truly stunned by the quality of models on here.... like seriously WOW!

Anyway, it's Revell's Cobra 427 kit, ordered all the way from the US (I'm over here in England where decent model shops are hard to come by). I've attached a few pics of where I'm at with it now, basically the main engine parts are all there, just detailing and painting bits and pieces. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/xcobra427x/Cobra008.jpg

Took me ages to find decent material for wiring the engine, this is copper wire (it's real tough and bending it is a mission, but once it's bent it stays in place real good) painted with clear blue, I think it looks pretty sweet!

Anyway, I was looking at this guys site on the net who built a real life cobra (for detailing reference) and his had some special carb system with these little gauges attached to the fuel lines, and they looked pretty cool, so I've tried to replicate this (see below)
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/xcobra427x/Cobra010.jpg
Doesn't look much, bad photo, it's just solder wire with a bit of plastic cut from flash and painted up (clear blue again, I love it), but looks good on the model (will paint the gauge face gloss black)>

See!!!!!

Anyhow, that's it for the moment. Check it out and let me know what you think, I won't be offended as it's only my first go, I'll probably get a few more of this same kit and do it a few different ways!

Nice looking. Just be careful with the drive train, it's been known to be too long.

Yeah, I saw mickbench's cobra build on here recently and that was mentioned, I haven't checked yet but shouldn't be a problem to sort out, cheers for the heads up tho!

Speaking of which, what's up with all the pics on mickbench's thread, they've all gone?!?

Any chance of posting a link to your cobra build, did you post it on here, I'd really like to see it (and pinch ideas, lol)

I never did post mine up, I think... His are probably gone because of his photo hosting source. I don't know what he used, but that's probably the problem.

I think I cut off 2mm of the drive train to make it fit. Not quite sure, I did that a few months ago.

I'm not sure of colour yet, I'll probably end up going for blue with white stripes (I know unimaginative), but the decals aren't great so I'm gonna spray the stripes myself, or at least try to, don't have a lot of practice spraying so that will be interesting, and don't have anywhere to do it either coz I don't have a garage, lol!

Thanks for all your comments guys, hopefully make some progress this week so I'll post more pics then!

Ok, I made a drastic decision yesterday!!!

As I said I am new at this, and even after reading MPWR's tutorial on washes I am still...... well...... rubbish at it really!!! As you can see, picking out the suspension didn't go well!

It's ok you can be honest, it looks pants! With practice I'll get it but for now I need a new plan!!

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/xcobra427x/P1100049.jpg

So I decided I would be daring, I took my knife to it and set about making my own suspension.......... scary stuff, started to have second thoughts but by that time it was a bit late!!!

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/xcobra427x/P1100037.jpg

So with the old kit part gone I set about bending my trusty hard as nails copper wire into a coil around a screwdriver. Then I cut to size some spare waste plastic from the kit!

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/xcobra427x/P1100036.jpg

So first to glue the inner part into place being sure that it's all level or nothing will fit and I'll end up with a huge mess..... yes this is different parts to the picture above, minor miscalculation of the size first time around!!

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/xcobra427x/P1100045.jpg

Then I cut the copper coil to size and painted it, I'm sticking with the yellow coz I like it and it contrasts all the blue and red in the engine. Forgive the huge 20p peice in this pic, it's for scale so the guys were I work can get an idea of the tinyness of it!

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/xcobra427x/P1100046.jpg

Once it's all together and glued it looks pretty sweet compared with the kit part....

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/xcobra427x/P1100048.jpg

Yep, definitely better, what do you guys think? It's not perfect but it gives a good overall look! Here it is with other engine parts test fitted! This pic also shows the oil filter I cut from more spare flash (see technically these are kit parts coz they did come from the kit... kinda)

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/xcobra427x/P1100047.jpg

Hope I'm doing it justice, already there's a million things I would do differently if I did it again, which I probably will. But for now I'm off to bed... ENJOY!!!!
