Rear Hatchback lock stuck in wrong position

Hi Everyone,
First time posting so please be nice to the newbie!
I've got a 1998 Bravada

I was recently hauling some things when I tried to close my rear hatchback. It did not close however the mechanism in the door closed to the locked position. I've push and pulled on it a bit but to no avail.Was wondering if you had any tips on getting this back into the correct position so my hatchback will stay closed and I could lock it. Thanks a million in advance to all the car Guru's.

I'll check my '97 when my load leveler gets back this afternoon.

Raise the hatch up where you can see the bottom edge. Find the engagement hook, it should be closed so it won't open. Pull the hatch handle like you want to open the hatch and hold it there. This should unlock the hook so you can rotate it in the open position.
