Yesterday while driving home, my 95 blazer SLT did the strangest thing. While going around a corner my check engine and battery lights lit up and the engine died.
I tried to start the truck, it would turn over but wouldn't start, so I called AMA. The guy tried to boost my truck and when he hooked up the cables a plume of smoke arose from under the hood and everything went dead on the truck completley.
I replaced the battery today and I have absolutley no power what so ever.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Nit it sounds to me, if everything was fine before you went around that corner, that the problem is a loose, cut or broken wire that touched metal when you went around that corner and shorted out, I am gonna guess that when the guy jumped the car the wire was still shorting out. Now that you put the new battery in it might not be starting because the alternator is fried or the wire is still shorting, after you put the new battery in has it died and have you smelled any burning, like plastic burning?

Check your battery to starter cable, and then your starter. Did you have your old battery tested? and as they said above check your alternator. which side of your Blazer did the smoke come from?

The smoke came from the same side as the battery, and there is no power to anything in the truck at all. I will check the cables today to see if that might be the problem.

maybe the coil fried or one of the wires feeding it have broken, fell off or loose or dirty connection.
i had mine suddenly die with no sputtering so figured electrical, not fuel/air prob.
turned out the pink wire connecting to coil had come off. put back on and was fine. prob was it was loose and needed new end put on or tiny squeezing with pliers so it would slide on tight.

I would like to thank everyone for the suggestions. It was as you all stated. The wire that goes from the battery to Altenator had snaped internally. I replaced the wire and the truck suddenly had power. When I tried to crank the truck it was making a high pitch squeeling noise wich I belive is the altenator, as the wheel was not turning. I am going to replace the Alt. tonight and see what happens.
