I got a notice last week concerning this recall. Mine's a '97. The notice said I hadn't yet had the required work done. I don't remember ever receiving a notice about this previously. I'm going to think about whether I want the work to be done as I haven't used the power sliding door in 5 years, and I read somewhere on this forum that someone had the work done and now it is harder to close the door. I've had enough trouble with the door in the past,( to the point we don't even use the power part anymore,) and I don't want any more difficulties with it.

I had the door handle recall done a few months ago. Really is no big deal. They pop off the inside handles and replace them with handles that are solid on the inside (where it is against the door panel).

The reason for the recall is that some people (probably kids) had their wrists broken or at least injured when they opened the door. I guess they grabbed the door handle with their hand between the door panel and the door handle, and the power door started moving backwards. Before they could pull their hand out, I guess their elbow got caught on the seat and the door moving backwards hurt their wrist.

About the worst they can do is mess up and scratch the door panel if they're not careful.

I think there are more details on the NHTSA.gov website.....Glen
