I am looking at this 91 rs camaro it is an 5.o automatic, is there much you can do with that motor? Is it worth having?

i have not looked at the motor yet, so is it a tpi, or a tbi? or can it be either? I have heard the tpi has alot more potintial.

damn it, none of the r.s's are tpi? just the z28's? are the tbi hard to get power out of? if so i will just wait till i can find a tpi or a lt1.

all rs are either v6 or 305 tbi. i've heard different things about tbi system: that its terrible and i heard that its very advanced, just takes a lot to reach its potential. but your prolly better off to just drop a lt1/ls1

ya i have a 00 ls1 t/a this was just going to be a play car, i have been looking for one under 3,000 but i want something easy to supe up. I will just see what shape it is in and if he wants to give me the right price i will do it.

And will an lt1 or an ls1 line up? with out haveing to move motor mounts? And will it hook to the 700r4.

an lt1 will,ls1 requiers new motor mounts. but you could drop in a 383 or something along those lines

don't swap the motor, you got it for a play car, so play with it. ECU chips can be found at www.tbichips.com thirdgen.org also has a very good TBI section on it's board. You can squeeze 400hp out of a 305 without any n2o or forced induction. The stock TBI 305's downfall is a terrible head design and very weak cam. A popular cam put in the TBI motors is the LT1 cam. There's various routes you can go with heads. Brodix just came out with a nice affordable set of aluminum heads called the IK200. I have a set myself. There's also Vortec heads, World Products Torquer 305 heads, or you could even go with a set of re-worked 305 TPI heads. Holley makes a nice replacement TBI unit that is 670cfm. A lot of ppl also use the rochester TBI unit from the 454 suburbans.

here is the deal, i am not going to have this car for all track, i will do some 1/4 mile times, but it will probly be a daily driver. So what is a good head i might be able to find at a junk yard?

What about vortec heads? someone said something about them, i i think i will pull a cam out of a z28 a lt1 at a junk yard. What are some good heads you might be able to find at a junk yard, i am i the st.louis area so there is a gateway race track and a HUGE junk yard next to it, it is all orginized from what type of car to the make model, so it is VERY orginized, any ways what are some good heads i can find there. I will pull some and have them port and polished and rebuilt.

well with vortec heads you'll lose compression due to the 64cc combustion chambers. 305 heads are 58cc. You may be able to mill the heads down a bit a go with a thinner head gasket to compensate for that tho.

Can you use an lt1 head? I found a cam i am going to use now i just need a head. I will run headders and flowmasters, with a hypertec thermo chip. Any other sujestions?

no, lt1 heads are a different design. I'd look into an aftermarket TBI unit, or see about getting your stock one bored.

Are you talking about the throttel body? If not where can i get one?

yea, TBI=Throttle Body Injection. Holley makes one, you can buy bored units on ebay, and www.turbocity.com i think has them also.

Sorry, i found it on turbocity. Thanx. Has any body got a prom chip from them? Is it worth the money?

I found a guy on ebay that sells them for like $80 and you tell him what you have and what mods and he programs it for you. An di have also decied to go to a junk yard and ge some tpi heads and have them rebuilt. Thanx for all your help.

chevy high performance magazine did a buildup on a 92 rs a came out with close to 300hp with a cam, torquer 305 heads, intake manifold, throttle body, and full exhaust (headers, high flow cat, cat back exhaust). The 305 does have potential but it depends on your budget. If u have a tight budget, go with some of the previous suggestions (chips, bigger tbi from 454, tb spacer, home port the heads). If your budget is bigger and you want to keep the 305, you can follow chp's buildup or drop in a 350 tbi/tpi, lt1, etc...

The 454 tbi will work? i did not kow that if so i will get it. I am going to put some stuff in this and way later down the road i will put a lt1 in it.
