im doin a little research for my dads maxi, hees looking to make it more or a funcar. it is a GLE

1:i hear ppl talk about only doing ypipe and catback, what about doing headback?

2: what are the auto trannys good to? id like to see something between 230-250NA or possibly up to 300-320 forced

3: knock sensor, i think something is wrong, cant tell if its the actual sensor or the harness or further back. will that really affect performance if its not working properly?

4:my intake pipe after the maf but b4 teh TB was damaged by previous owner, bandaided with ducktape, can i get a hardpipe with all the places to hook up all the tubes?

5:TB spacer, will that help performance?

6: underdrive pully, is it true that one wont make a differance on a 4thgen?

thankyou all for your time

haha u caught me on "anyhelp" .... i really should read wat i type b4 posting

....anyhelp

...general anyhlp:

1. Engine is a tunable entity. When all parts are well tuned, power and torque rpm's are 'wide' & where designer wants them to be. Depends on to which 'market segment' the car was targeted... Opening one area might hlp, but thats not warranted. U cannot take out more than goes in.
2. My guess is that sudden force -peak is the danger under 300 maybe long racing. If one drives with cold tranny (stock), wheels spinning from icy patch onto dry asphalt with good traction: call tow truck.
- Cooling & 2-30k oil changes are important.
- The whole case is 'flexible': typically boxes have extra support spots for other vehicle types. If one or more of these can be used, will help in keeping box from warping. (I once got stanza manual box mainaxle oil leak settled with extra support.)
3. KS retards ign 10 - 15 degrees. Drops pwr to 150?... check http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/9
5. Salesmen say so, I cannot believe. ...5&6 Question is, can u ever find out the difference?

i own a 99 maxima gxe and have a unorthodox lightened underdrive pulley and yes it does help....dont expect like 15hp but it will give some kick....makes ur idle a lil more bouncy and if you have a lot of electrical stuff running and a huge system it might wanna drop down ...so u might wanna adjust the idle too a 100 or 150 rmps higher....but if its stock or a lil sub u should be fine, ....

also headers for our cars are more expensive to put it than for what u get out of them....stick with a warpspeed or cattman ypipe...even try ebay warpspeed is on that a lot for a good deal....headers (unless u do it urself) can take from 5-7hours to install at a mechanic shop and gain only like 3hp ......better off with a nice ypipe to get 15hp...and full exhuast.... hope this helps

im looken at doin head back, headers, cat, ypipe, bpipe, and muffler.

right now i got a pop charger and a 40series flowmaster, surprisingly quiet till it gets WOT then the intake screams

like i said headers wont do that much...and will cost more in labor than the headers do ....say 60bucks a hour for at least 5hours thats $300 u can save, plus the headers that cost 300 at least for a good set (catman or warpspeed) only to gain what a 3hp???? your better off doing ypipe back and cat , bpipe muffler ....and a lightend flywheel ...trust me, headers make lil gain on maximas.....its not a honda

headers don't really do shit on a 4th gen. save your money and just get the downpipe.

the reason i say head back is because i found a set of headers/cat/ypipe and i think even a bpipe fir not much more than just a SS ypipe

... lightened underdrive pulley ....makes ur idle a lil more bouncy ...

The engine rotating masses (like pulleys) have been designed =claculated, tested - to manage vibrations. Modifying these harmonic dampeners w/o knowledge and/or testing, dangers engine with unknown vibrations: crank, bearings... In extreme cases it will cause mechanical failure, u can see some reports as u scan the forums.

For few extra hp [original q point.6.] I would not take such bouncing engine: better intake (better cyl fillup) will give more and is safer. Exhaust is less important: this is why turbos take energy from exhaust to boost air intake. Spacers do not affect [original q point.5] the intake airflow in any way, thus sit in hillarious the propeller turbo -class.

Howabout installing opening free clutch (similar to (A/C) to alternator, pump, at WOT?
