Need Help Asap with Escort

Aright guys i have 2 problems with my 93 escort 1.9l. After swapping the throttlebody with a mustangs (standard ford part swap), changing the location of the kick and throttle cable, and adding an air intake i have come across these problems. My first problem is when i step on the gas with a little extra force, the engine, i guess it lags and kicks before it gets going. Any way to fix that. My other problem is that at times like once a week or soo, the rpm gauge drops and the engine turns off after coming to a stop at like a red light. Any way to fix that? THnx

you probably left a vacuum line loose or knocked one loose when you were taking your intake apart.

well ive check them all before all seem to be in and properly installed, but would that fix both problems, or just the engine shutting off?

Have you set the idle speed correctly?

id check the adjustment on your throttle position sensor if you had to take it off or if a new one came on the throttle body. closed throttle output from the sensor should be around 0.5-0.8 volts. wide open should be from about 3.7-4.5 volts. you may also have a dead spot in it causing your hesitation

THe idle speed, i believe i adjusted it correctly, that is if you mean the car idles around less than 1000 rpm. The TPS i used the mustangs, same connectors, and im guessing that might be a problem. And what do u mean exactly by a dead spot?Thnx

a dead spot would be an open place in the variable resistor inside the tps. you can check this by using an ohm meter and slowly opening the throttle with the test leads hooked up to the sensor. you will see a change in the ohm value as you open the throttle. if you get an O/L (out of limit) then you probably have an open or dead spot.

Ok, before checking those i just remembered something else. My friends civic was recently overheating, so he took out the thermostat to leave and open flow, and he has troubles with it as it shuts off and wont crank for like 5 minutes. A few months ago i was having overheating problems as well, so i took the thermostat out too. Could this be my problem, although my car is able to crank after it shuts off? Maybe engine is not getting hot enough?
