Might be engine ping, a pulley, or a lifter. Who knows.

Any relation to Chuck Norris?

What year and engine? Could be a sloppy timing chain.

I have a '95 Dakota with the magnum v-8 and it also has that rattle. At first I thought I had something come loose but after looking all over the engine, transmission, and frame, I did not find anything. After a while, I noticed it was alot noisier when I was driving around town when the engine was warm. I don't hear it as much after I have drove a considerable distance with few stops. Stop and go driving brings out mine quite a bit. I have had a couple people tell me it was the timing chain having a little slop in it which made it hit the timing chain cover. I'm OK with that. I have never wanted to stick anything onto a running engine to confirm it so I'm going to just accept it until my radio cannot drown it out any longer.
