96 metro ECM temp. sensor location

96 Metro, 157k, below 15 degrees F it cranks but won't start, unless maybe if the gas pedal is pumped like crazy. Based on earlier threads, some people had mentioned the the coolant temp. sensor the goes to the ECM had gone bad, so it wouldn't enrich the mixture. I looked all over the engine and can't find it, it is not in the same location as a '93. Does anyone know where it is?

I had a similar issue and changing it fixed the problem for my 95 1.0L.
A mechanics did it but I think it's located under the distributor cap, toward the engine.

SebFor some reason I had thought that was the sensor for the temp. gauge (maybe based on older models?). I'll see if I can see where the wiring goes. Thanks.

it should be on the passenger side under the throttle body, one wire coming out of it.

I won't swear to it as I haven't had to mess with it, but in all the things I've read that is what I have understood to be the sensor.

On A '96, it should be in the head or thermastat housing. The temp sender is a single wire unit. The ECT is a two wire unit. Earlier metros have it in the back of the throttle body.

I've decided that my '96 only has one coolant temp. sensor, located in the thermostat housing because:
1)When sensor is unplugged, the radiator fan comes on, so the sensor goes to the ECM.
2)The sensor has three wires connected to it.
3)Some replacement sensors for it are listed as "dual use". I thought this meant that this one sensor could replace either sensor, now I think it means the one sensor is for the ECM and the gauge.

Anyway, I replaced it, car runs fine, but it hasn't been cold enough this month to see if it actually fixed the problem. I'll have to write back later.
