I am new here and believe I posted my question in the wrong section. My question is about getting into the tailgate of a 1993 Explorer. It was hit and rendered in operable, we need to get inside it somehow if possible. Is there a possibility of removing the inside panel to expose the workings? Any advices is appreciated. Thanks, Richie.

I have a 95 and was able to remove the interior panel when my Tailgate exterior handle was broken, but I had to break the panel at the top to get it out.

A couple things to keep in mind you need unscrew the black rod the locks the door.

All the plastic buttons holding the panel need to be removed, also might need to remove the pull strap it has two screws under it.

I can take a couple photos and upload them if you need them.

oh p.s. I started from the top and you want to be careful of bending the plastic since it might crack..

JD68, thank you very much for your info. I explained what you did to fix your problem to my brother, as he is 100 miles away, and he understood what you were talking about. He will work on it this weekend. Thanks again. Richie
