Piston Rings

How hard is it to replace the rings? Do I need to pull the motor, or is it possible to just pull the oil pan and go from below? Thanks.

yep leave that motor in there it is much easier. all you need to do is like you said pull the pan. then pull the head off(leave the intake manifold on because then you dont need to get a new intake gasket. then pop those pistons out the top and wolla. i personally think it is easier to do it this way. but do as you please

Thanks for the reply. Now it's time for me to sound really uneducated. What do I need to do to prepare for the rings? I'm sure I need to hone the cylinders, but what is the tool called to measure the size of the rings? And does anyone recommend a place to buy the rings at? And since I should probably get new bearings for the crank whlie i'm at it i'm sure, so what do I need to do to find out what size bearings to get? Is it necessary to get the crank turned if all looks well? Sorry for the 20 questions, but I just want to do this right.

Preparation: just make sure that you have all the necessary equipment, like a piston ring compressor, something to do the honing with, etc.

I'd get OEM Honda rings, or total seal rings. With the total seal rings you have to be very careful, because in the first few hundred miles until they seal, it will be using a lot of oil, so you will probably need to check often.

The crank stays in the car, so you really don't need to replace the bearings. You certainly don't have to do it while doing the rings.

Thanks for the reply also. When i said crank bearings, I should have said rod bearings. Because they will be coming off. And about the oil. I got through about 5 quarts a week or slightly over now anyway, so it would be nothing new to me. Thanks again for the response, let's just hope I do this right, :p.
