piston ring question

Well guys I ditch my b20 project and sold mos tthe stuff to upgrade my d series motor and keep it a sleeper....I was wondering how hard it is to gap the rings on these things...like last time I followed the owners manual and I had blow by.....do the rings really matter how they are spaced out...need help so i can hop in installing some new 8.5 srp pistons....thanks
