2003 F-150 Hesitant to Start

i have a 03 5.4 f-150. when it's cold outside, it is very hesitant to start. the first time it happened, it was hesitating about a second. now it's hesitating a few seconds before it finally turns over. i can't really describe the sound it makes when it's trying to turn over. even after i drive it for a while and it is warmed up and i go to crank it again, it's still hesitant if it's below around 45 degrees outside. if it's warm outside, it starts fine. i'm thinking either starter or alternator, but i don't really know much about engines so i could very well be wrong. with the cold weather pretty much just starting here, i want to find out what's wrong asap. thanks for any help.

Taht is the problem with fords they happen to popup with problems easily try your starter.

Sounds like you may have a low voltage problem. It could be a weak, or dead cell in the battery, dirty terminals or other connections. Have the battery tested, and test the alt for proper output. The alt wont keep it from cranking, unless its not charging the battery properly. If you have a charger, charge it overnight and see if it makes a difference. You cant properly test the battery until its charged anyway. Check all of your connections all the way to the starter. It may be the starter, but if it starts ok when warm, id suspect the battery , or connections.Good luck.
