Idle RPM Adjustment

Hey guys, let me explain my situation here...

I got a high output altenator to accomidate for my audio amplifier. The problem is that my altenator does not charge under 800RPMs (this was disclosed to me prior to buying it) and my car (which is a 1998 Century Custom) idles under 800RPMs apparently since the alt is not charing at idle and I have no RPM guage to see if this is correct, but I assume so. Anyway, obviously I need to raise my idle, and I can not seem to figure out how. I see no set screw, and I am hoping it is not computer controlled.. If there is no way to control it, is there no way AT ALL to raise the idle?

Please help.. I am constantly holding the gas, even at stop lights, just so my lights do not dim, and it sucks...

The idle is not manually adjustable. It is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM controls the idle air controller valve (IAC) on the throttle body to mantain idle and references off the throttle position sensor (TPS) for feedback.

Probably not, however, I believe the idle map can be re-programmed in the PCM if you can find a company that will re-program the PCM for you. Digital Horspower (DHP) may do it as a custom programming job so that could be another option. Another company is Intense. I know they do Regals and Grand Prixs to include certain other GM "W" bodies.

Try going to a custom audio store and asking about a power cap. It's an item that stores power inline on your sound system so that when you need a boost of energy, you have it without straining your charging system.
