He obviously either works there or knows someone who does as he now says that he will be listing some more items next week and has access to some other items that will "possibly" be listed in the future.

Man, what the heck happened on this auction? Item shot up several times yesterday and again late today. Got as high as 5000 quid and then, bam! Everybody cancelled their bids and it went for the opener of 300! Someone put the word out or something? Very weird.

Wow, if that sale is real and goes through, what a deal. Did anyone else notice in the text: 'This spare chassis was used to replace GTR 027R damaged during shakedown tests prior to delivery to the customer. . .The original 027R chassis was later repaired and plated as 028R' ??? That's new to me. I've heard of a 29R, but not something as quoted above.

I guess something to do with McLaren getting in contact with the seller.
Some information on that list can't be given out to anyold lad out there.
It's personal, more to the fact people who own some of the cars on that list don't want others knowing. Probably offered 5x the amount it was on to buy it back!
The brake flap should go to a museum.

Everybody cancelled their bids...

Everyone's bids were cancelled by the seller. It looks like he failed to close the auction though and a bid came in at the last minute for that low price - probably through a sniping program. :dunno:

I had heard a portion of that, but not the part about the spare chassis being involved. The thing I question about that is #27R's shakedown runs would have been in 1997 and the poster included with DA implies that the spare chassis was built at the end of 1998.

Yes I had tried to post a correction and some additional comments but the forums slowed to a crawl and it obviously never got submitted. My previous post also gave me an error message then told me I wasn't logged in (I was) then told me I couldn't post again so soon (I hadn't) then told me the post duplicated my previous post (there wasn't one) so I guess there must be sunspot activity or something...
Anyway - he also cancelled the bids on all of his other auctions and ended them early so perhaps the "McLaren Heavy Mob" went over to pay him a visit.:iceslolan

I just want to know which chassis #'s were destroyed.

Then again, having a list of all colours, owners etc kinda ruins the fun :D

Really isn't fair on bidders when sellers close listings in the last few minutes with no notice at all.
I remember about a year ago, I bid on a 96 GTR Press kit (about £200+) and the seller closed the auction about 3 seconds before end. :disappoin

another occasion where I bidded on a emblem for a McLaren, (front badge for a road car) and the listing was closed early. I think it was the same seller, he then became "no longer a registered user" for an unknown reason?

Very Upsetting, but then I guess ill get through it!

that was what i was thinking too. also the other items he had up for auction ended early. my guess was probably someone offered him a real nice offer for all the items, or someone at mclaren caught wind of the auctions.

the build log binder was a real nice piece. i'm guessing that there isn't many of those around. 2 or 3 at the most....

i remember that auction pretty well. when it was closed early first thought was someone offered him a offer he couldn't refuse. or it was a scam...
