I have been away from this forum for 6 or so months (working on a 3.5 kw genset for fun!!! and i can't forget the camero project) now to the 97 blazer. in the fall I drove through a deep puddle (on road) and shortly there after the electric door locks would intermittantly operate on their own. the manual switches would not work. after a day or so when things dried out tje problem went away. last nite my wife said the interior dome lite would dimmly flicker while driving. I varified it when she got home and noted the door lock were not working by the switches. we had an icy mix of rain and snow the day before. I think i have a water issue in a connector somewhere. anyone have any thoughts as to where to begin looking?? good to be back spencer

I'd start by looking for broken wires in the boot between the frame and the drivers door.

update door locks are inoperative. electric seat doesn't move and sun roof is stuck open. went to check fuses. the 20 amp circuit breaker was so hot it burned my finger on touch. it is in the fuse box marked "A" power accessories. the sun roof is on the 30 amp window circuit didnt think to check the windows to see if they work (different from seat and locks) sounds like i have a resistance short after the breaker and before the accessories. if it were a dead short the breaker would trip unless it keeps resetting itself. i am going to put an ammeter across the breaker and go from there. any thoughts on wiring issues. i remember hearing of a wire harness issue under the drivers seat in some blazers will post again as i get more info

Hey,
Same problem with my 97 Jimmy. Would like to know if you figured out the problem. I moved my seat all the way forward and cut back some of the carpet, but did not find anything. I guess the next step is to remove the entire front seat and expose all the wiring. Identical problem though, the dome flashes as well as the under dash lights. Makes a little clicking noise too that sounds like its coming from under the dash. Sure would be nice to have power locks again eh!

just got the blazer back from the wife today.. her volvo v70 1999 just had two inner tie rods and a left cv axle done. now i can tear into it and find what is up i will continue posts on my thread. i only posted here because i thing the problem is similar. ie my pulsating volt meter disapeared when i removed the circuit breaker. this thread started with pulsaing lights and jumpin volt meter.

i had the same problem with my blazer, the lites were flickering on and off while driving. what you have to do is take out the drivers seat and soem of the padding and i guarantee u that u will see a wire that is shorting out against the frame. i fixed with tape and havent had a problem ever since

yesterday I got around to removing the drivers seat. applied power to both sets fo connectors ont the seat. all seat functions worked. the bladder in the seat back worked. all wires had voltage and conntinuity. removed carpet and all wiring looks new and no sign of damage. reistalled seat and put in a 20 a fuse to test . all is well. all works. will keep fuse in until i find problem. i hate intermittant problems. may have to do the smoke test if all fails. jump fuse and watch for smoke when this happens again.

been several weeks w no problem, then i blew a fuse today. (i replaced the circuit breaker w a 20 a fuse) thought i'd narrowed it down to the pass side door. tore it down. could find no problem. then went back to square one and noticed when i pounded on the drivers seat the ammeter would peak and over load off scale at 20 amps. problem must be in the drivers seat. disconnected the plug for the motor circuit and no more current draws. problem must be in that circuit. now i need to tear out the seat again and recheck everything. the bladder circuit had no effect on current draw. must be short in seat motor circuits. now to find it.

problem fixed. there is a five wire harness that goes to the lumbar bladder switch. the orange 12v wire was totally bare and it melted most ot the other wires. pinched between the frame and the seat. to all check it out and fix it.
