Hello, I have been in love with Deloreans since I first laid eyes on them. No it wasn't in BTTF movies when I first discovered them. It was actually when I was around 8 yrs. old and I was sneaking a peek in my dad's Playboy magazine when I first saw her...she was beautiful!!! Sleek lines, sharp edges, and those doors!!! It was a ad for a watch I think(maybe a liquer ad) and it showed this guy picking up his date in a Delorean. A discaimer said the Delorean was not yet avaliable and I don't remember much else. Anyway, here I am at 34 and I just gave the go ahead to one of my customers who owns a car lot to source me a D. I gave him complete authority and a budget to find and buy my the car. I have been trolling the Delorean boards some and I told him what to look for such as the frame and fuel injection. I wanted a perfect body, interior not so important as long as it was in good shape, I am very capable of making a older car look like it just came out of the showroom. 60k or less miles, perferrable 5 sp. Hopefully I will get a good one but I'm in no hurry and willing to wait for the right one to come along.
Does anyone have any advice to offer a buyer looking at one? Any quik things to check, how they should start up? what to listen for? I read a very nice post by Timetraveler that answered a lot. Thanks in advance...Michael.

I just remembered! It was a Craig stereo ad. I don't remember the playmate's name. I remember stealing the ad...that's right a Playboy magizine and I stole the picture of the Delorean and hid it..I swear that's the truth.

Just make sure everything electrical works, it's a major pain in the ass to figure out all that ass backwards wiring they had.

Just a update...I'm still in the hunt. The last exotic sale did not turn up any worthwhile canidates. I turned down a 81 because it was too iffy. I'm proud of myself for not getting too delerious and jumping on the first one I found. Like I said, It has to be nice. Maybe March will be my month. PS just watched a nice biography on GSN called "Anything to win" in which John Delorean was profiled, very good show.

the electrical is right!
Also, seals...the rubber is made an old way, and gas breaks it down...check the gas tank seals, the pump area and inside the engine bay. Check the fans in the front on the underside, make sure they are working right, and mounted on the radiator.. (yes, its in the front, under the car)

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
I searched and searched and couldn't find one within my budget, so I decided to save up for a refurbished model and BAM! 6 days from now I will be bringing my D home!! Finally I am a Delorean owner!!! This is actually a second hand refurb, but only 1,700 miles since restoration and in this market, I got it for what one would pay for a decent driver!!
Now I have to sell my Z to make room, anyone want a mint Z?

I haven't signed in this forum for like 10 years. I came here to try and recover some old pics from a hard drive crash and I thought "why not visit this thread?"
I still have my DeLorean, still love it. I have made it nothing short of perfect over the years(you can eat off the frame and engine) and has been without a doubt the most fun car I have ever owned. Maybe I will load a few pics once I can figure out how to upload them?
Edit, here are some recent pics. Not going through the trouble of embedding:
