Hello, I remember reading about an alarm system that was capable of paging you up to 400 feet away if the alarm went off. Does anyone have any idea what this is? Any help is much appreciated!

There is a few manufactors that make add-on pager that can add onto just about any alarm and claim to work up to a half mile away. Dei. makes a add-on pager that usually runs around $130. You can also get alarms that have the two way paging built into the remote. If you need any more info just let me know.

I just installed a brand new CompuStar 2-way security system on my car and I freakin' love it. It works up to a quarter mile and you can add an optional extension antenna for longer range. I drive a 5-speed and I have autostart/shutdown, power door locks, proximity sensor, dual stage shock sensors, hood pins, turbo timer, and lots of auxilery outputs so that you can control anything from neon kits to your sound system with the LCD screen remote. One of the cool things about is that there is a paging sensor that you put on the inside of your windshield and if someone wants to talk to you, they just have to tap on the glass of your windshield and the CompuStar system will page your 2-way remote with a telephone icon on the LCD screen. The screen shows everything from your lights flashing, to exhaust, to an open door, to a shock... all sorts of stuff. All with indiglo backlighting.

Mine cost me 500 bucks so you need to be willing to give up a large chunk of your wallet (or savings account :p)
If you want to learn more about them... try their website at http://www.compustar.org/
There's also a new SS (Spread Spectrum) system available that offers a much longer range and serious frequency hopping capabilities.

DEI does make a pager system that can add onto almost any system as long as it has the proper wires to tap into. It retails in my store for 99.99. It interfaces your headunits FM antenna to send you a signal when your alarm is going off. I recently installed one in a 97 GSR and when his alarm went off his power antenna went up and sent a signal to a small pager that worked very well over a quarter mile away. It comes with everything you need but you will most likely need one or two antenna extensions for running the antenna wire to your headunit and back. I have heard bad things about it from people but I have found no problems with it as I have it on my car. I like this product.
