Can i drive stick shift?

I just got my civic yesterday. Had no clue how to drive stick. My car will like lunge back in for in gears. Am i just driving it worng? Maybe in worng gear?

If it's a fairly strong movement, then you're probably shifting in a lower gear. Try to describe it and the situation better. Do you have a stock tachometer in your gauge cluster (so you can check the rpms)? When you shift and release the clutch, does the engine get louder or quieter? Is it just a kind of the engine bogging out, where it will go away when you accellerate more?

Yea, it goes away at higher speeds. But feels like its just chugging back and forth. i think im hitting 3rd instead of 1st sometimes? I dont know.Should i have the clutch in when i turn> also if feels as if i must be at like 3-5 thousand rpm before i let the clutch go or else it will feel like itll kill.????

Don't touch the clutch when you're turning, most of the time you should be in 2nd gear when you take a turn. Also keep your left foot off the clutch pedal when you're driving, even the slightest pressure will shift your clutch (and it will rub and eventually burn up). And never downshift into 1st gear if the car is moving more than 5-10mph. But it sounds like you're either shifting too soon (into a higher gear) or your clutch is gone (or both). If your clutch is slipping, it could cause the car to bog down until it gets grip (I have this problem with my car). but when you say it seems like it will die if you don't have it at 3-5K prms, is when you move in first gear to get the car going or in every gear?

Bad motor mount maybe?

one of the funniest post lol dude just ask ur dad what the technic is and go out and teach urself.. there is no better way to learning stick then by teaching urself and gaining the feeling of the clutch.. g/l

i agree, takes getting used too, comming off the line i would be at a steady 2,000 rpms then slowly release the clutch till u feel yourself start to move, as ur moving forward keep releasing the clutch, but dont let ur rpms drop below 1500. oh yeah! thats if u have a tach. and one big key to this all.....practice practice practice.

Honestly, try learning to drive stick on an 83' Chevette with no hp, a fucked carb and a dead clutch. You learn heel toe technique with both feet... like this \ / to keep the car from dying while stuck in traffic. LOL
