Has anyone had a problem with thier explorer over heating on a warm day with the A/C running. Ive noticed that the RPMs increase to about 1300 when it starts to over heat as well.
Ive taken it to the dealer and they cant seem to figure it out. They have changed the thermostat twice and the fan clutch with no chage. OBD shows no codes.
Other than the scenerio above it runs fine with no overheating.

The general rule of thumb is - overheating at idle, replace the fan clutch. Overheating out on the highway, replace or repair the radiator.

Your engine is designed to rev up when it overheats at idle to pull more air thru the radiator and cool things down. When it does that, it should also be turning off the a/c compressor, since the a/c puts a big load on the engine at idle. You should pay attention and see if your a/c cuts off in that situation.

You are getting good cooling at all speeds except idle, so the radiator is almost certainly good. You have replaced the thermostat and fan clutch, so those are known good. Hoses can "collapse" when they get old, and restrict coolant flow, but that is seen at higher speeds when the cooling system is moving a lot of fluid - it won't be a hot idle only problem. That leaves the water pump - there is most likely a problem with the impeller. There is no way to "diagnose" a water pump with an impeller problem - it is simply a process of elimination. Not a common problem, but I'd try that next.
