I dropped my 97' 4WD Tahoe off for a state inspection today. I get a call at work that the passenger side upper and lower ball joints were very loose, they said the other side was ok. I had them replace the upper and lower ball joint. They charged me $225 for the ball joint replacement. My question is did I get shafted on this? I'm still at work, so I haven't seen the break down on the bill. Just wanted to know if this sounds in the ball park before I go in and start asking questions about the price. Thanks for any info.

Price is very fair. BTW, in NYS ball joints are not part of the safety inspection.

I live in Virginia, and I didn't think ball joints are part of the inspection either, but I'm glad they picked it up. Thanks for the input.

I'll second the price being fair. I've not heard of a ball joint replacement being that cheap in a long time myself.

I know here in Canada the ball joints are part of the safety inspection. The price on the ball joints are about $30 to $40 each. (U.S.) The upper is the chape of the 2. And on the shop labour it about 1.2hrs. to do both. So I think your in good for a price. Cheers to you!~
