brake-shift interlock

Well this is probably a no-brainer for someone (like an expensive mechanic!)--I have a '99 LX. A couple of months ago I noticed a slight squeak when releasing the brake pedal, but the manual said
this is a no-worry item--brakes should screech before panic mode; then about the same time I noticed that with the engine on, in Park, as I depress the brake pedal there is a simultaneous 'click' from the area of the gearshift. With the holidays $$$ have been at a premium so I have learned to live with this--is this minor or do I need to get the 'professionals' on this pronto?

That 'click' isn't a problem, it's the release mechanisim for the gearshift disengaging. Completely normal.

^^^Werd, that click was pretty loud in my old civic, I used to tap the brakes and fuck with people in my car saying that something might break while we're on the road so just be prepared.
