'99 GT Tach Problem

Funny, when I am driving for the more than an hour, my tachometer first starts twitching, then dies - just shows zero.
This usually only happens when the dash lights are on, and I've noticed that when my low fan speeds were on the blink (no air movement) with temperature turned up, it dies in 40-45 minutes. With the A/C on, and lights on, it takes the better part of two hours (although I rarely drive that long in the GA.)
When I took it to the dealership back in 2002 (still under warranty) they said they could not reproduce the problem, and they just cleaned the contacts, patted me on the head and sent me off.
The rest of the gauges work fine... any ideas?

Thanks.
