96 Sunfire Overheating only in winter

Ok, to start with I need a little background. Last winter, I noticed that my sunfire was overheating, so bad that the temp. gauge went as far as it would go in about 10 mins. of driving, highway or city. So, I took it in to get the coolant flushed because really that's all i could afford. So, hoping that it wasn't the head gasket, I just kept driving it for short distances only.

Once the cold weather wore off, (I'm in Canada), and everything was melted, and the air was warm again, the problem went away. I drove all summer without a problem. So I thought everything was good.

Again, once the cold came back this winter, its overheating again. I'm wondering what the hell is doing this. Is something getting frozen and blocking something?? Waterpump? Radiator? Thermostat? Any help with this would be much appreciated.

and replace thermostat must be dirty on the outside and freezing
