hi guys,

curently í'm building a tamiya Xanavi Nismo GT-R R34 (special edition). i`ve done some models already but this car would be my first "two tone car" ...red and siver. i know painting has been a well covered topic here but all body painting forums i've seen are all solid colors. can somebody give me some tips on how to paint this one? how can i make the transition of paint smooth, without the bump caused by masking? should the transition be sanded after the final coat? i'm using tamiya rattle cans by the way.

thanks.

Baremetal Foil. Or accept there will be a bump and use polishing clothes to smooth it out. 3400-3600-400 grit should do it. This is the technique I use on 1:43 where any bump is noticeable.

I am building this kit right now, almost done. unfortunately i havent been doing any progress pictures. but here are some tips.

1. paint the silver color first. then mask off all areas to remain silver and then paint red.

2 all the seams between the red and silver are covered by decals so it doesnt need to be perfect. just lightly sand rear window pillar seams before applying decals.

hope this helps and good luck!

Spray the silver first, a single light coat of silver along the taped edge (So if anything bleeds under it will be silver and not red), light coats of red, and spray OVER the edge of the tape, not AT it.

I'm not familiar with exactly the transition you are talking about but several of coats of clear over the colour coats seperated by gentle sanding will remove any bumps. Works with decals too but takes great care and patience.

And a big AF welcome for you too.
