Hey guys, I wondered if any of you Daddies could tell me if I can put a baby/ infant car seat in the front bench seat of my sweet 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500, regular cab, old body style, no airbags. The jerk-offs at the dealership didn't give me a manual for this truck. I've heard that you can't put a baby car seat in the front seat of all trucks with airbags. It's hard to beleive I can put one in my wife's little jetta, but not in my full size pick-up.
Thanks.

It all depends on the age of the child. I assume since you said baby/infant that your child is very young. The safest place for any child is in the back seat of any vehicle. Since you have a reg cab pickup that would make it impossible in this case of course. I would say that it should be ok considering that you don't have airbags as long as the car seat is secure enough to be stable. Most of the places around the country that I have lived in had places where you could go ie: fire dept, hospital, red cross and they would help you to make sure your car seat was installed safely and properly. Make some calls around the these places in your area and see if they offer this service.

I have a 99' Silverado Ext NBS and the ability to turn off my Passenger side Front AirBag, thus giving the ability to put my son up front with us.

You should be able to on your truck with no problems. As mentioned before you don't have airbags so your ok. When your child is older than one year then you can front face them and tether the back of the seat to one of the seat belt mounts on the floor behind the seat. Not a pretty job as the seat tether has to be fished down the back and hooked on while the seat is resting on the seat...

Hope this info helps...

Welllll...since it's a standard cab,you obviously can only put the baby seat in the front seat, first look for two small brass loops (for straps) at the crease where the back of the seat meets the seat. This where the child seat would strap to the seat. If they're not there then you use the seatbelt and shoulder strap around the appropriate areas on the child seat (or car seat as it's called). Unless you can totally secure the seat properly, don't do it. It's not worth the risk...but good luck just the same.

Does anyone have experience installing a forward facing toddler seat in the rear bench of a 1999-2001 Extended Cab Silverado? Or front seat with air bag turned off? If so what do you anchor the top strap to?

It seems my 1999 does not have an anchor point for the top strap of the toddler seat. My owners manual states a bracket kit is available from Chevy for this purpose and can be installed by the dealer. "This work will be done free of charge." (as quoted directly from the owners manual). Apparently the labor is free but not the part kit is not as they want to charge me $82 for one!

As it stands there is no way to properly mount a toddler seat in the vehicle as is from factory. Therefore there is no way a child of 1-2 years of age to legally ride in it. I am very dissapointed that GM didn't just include this bracket from the factory.

Just wondering if anyone else out there has had a similar experience or perhaps found a dealer more accomodating that would provide both the bracket and labor free of charge.

Thanks in advance for you comments.

can you post a part number? I'm about to forward face my son, and I'll order the part.

sorry, no part number. Your dealer like mine is probably very familiar with the issue and can look it up pronto.

Good topic. we are expecting a baby in 3 weeks. I have a 2001 NBS ext cab. I noticed i the back seat, middle of the seat, there are two loops at the crease of the seat. I believe that is for a baby seat. I also noticed at the top of the rear seat ther is a black nylon (?) strap. It is dead center. Feel behind the back of your seat and see if you have one.

Is this for the top of the car seat? I think I will ask the dealer about this as I am going in for a upper intake/tb cleaning soon.

Check your owner's manual; that's when I figured out what all the crap sticking up at the back of my seat was.
