Toyota Corolla 99 Problems

I have a Toyota Corolla 99, and I've just been having a recent problem. When I turn my ignition key to start my car, all I hear is a click...and if I get lucky, after many attempts, my engine may turn on. I'm thinking that it may be a problem with my starter motor or a problem with one of the componet of the starter system. I just repaced my battery with a new one, and it worked for a day temporarily, but I again hear that frustrating click. So, if anyone can give provide advice on what they think I should do, I'd appreciate it. I'm a tight budget, so I need the best yet effective solution on fixing the starter motor. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Thanks.

your contacts in the soleniod are going bad, you can replace these fairly cheap and the starter motor should be just fine, check ebay for starter clicker fixer i believe they are called .

Searching for "starter clicker fixer" on EBay, nothing appears...Is there a better term that I could search for? Can someone just give me a ballpark figure of the costs to fixing my car ($100? $1000?)...thnks.

The starter contacts have gone bad. The parts are very inexpensive (under $10 from the Toyota dealer) and easy to replace, though you must pull out the starter. If you do not have a repair guide/manual or do not want to DIY, it should be under 1 hour labor to pull out the starter and replace the contacts. Common wear item for 98-01 Corolla.

Hey Society,

I too am on a budget and my 99 Corolla did the same thing around the same time. Before you spend the money check the connections going to the starter. Dissconect the battery first to keep from shorting something out. The large cable running to my starter was slightly loose. With a little turn of the wrench the problem has not returned. It wasn't the easiest to reach, since it is tucked up under the header. I hope this helps. Those starters are not cheap!:2cents:
