I just got it for 720.00. its got 197k. starts good and runs good. Small tick in engine> valves maybe? Worth fixing? The body has some rust and really is not worth fixing. The car has headers and dual exhaust which rattles when given acceleration? How do you fix that?? Heres some pictures. Please help a newb out. Thanks ray Also any suggestions on fixing the bumper/bumper trim????

the 11k rpm tach adds 250 hp to the wheels!

i'd say it's an ok deal for 720$, i wouldn't have bought it in the first place though. Looks like he did everything real cheapo. That tach looks like something out of k-mart..haha. But hey, if you like it then by all means it was a good deal

ehh 720 aint all that bad.. if i had it for a few hrs im sure i could make it look half decent. the valve tap u hear may not be all that bad.. i dont know cause well.. im not next to ur car. hondas, especially older hondas start to tap after awhile.. no biggie. the exhaust could be rattling cause its up against the bumper or the under carriage of ur car.. might not be on the hangers right or most likely he jerryrigged some kind of hanging device like a coat hanger lol. the rear filler piece isnt too hard to find.. which is between the hatch and the bumper.. junkyard $10-25 and ebay $40-60. the rear bumper might just need the driver side clip to hold it in place.. junkyard if i were u id start hiding wires and make sure there is no shitty wire connections that could cause a short or worse.. a fire. over all it doesnt seem bad and prolly got its ass beat most of its life lol take care of it and do a good tune up..plugs,oil,filter,flush n fill the coolant.. and wont hurt to run some injector cleaner either.

ok so you say the body is not worth fixing the rust, and the motor has a ping, could be a timing issue to a fucked up valve, and you arent even sure if its worth fixing. Which is probably is. Im not trying to be a dick, im just wondering, WHY did you buy this car?

And I dont think you got ripped either. You don't have to pay much to get a headache lol.

The car really is just a little tuner car. I dont plan to put big money into it. I just want it to last a couple years so i can have some fun with it. It feels like you are in a gocart. I proboly would rather get a civic with a perfect body and take the headers, exhaust, jdm headlights, altezza taililights, srtut bars, and toms coilovers, off my civic now and put them on that/

Dude those headlights are so not even close to JDM.

From the looks of it, it looks like that car got the balls beat off it.

It really aint to bad. The pics look worse than it is. If i fix the bumper and the filler, pop some fenders on ill be set. 720.00 for something that runs good, is reliable and comes with aftermarket strut bars, head and tailights, not installed coilovers, headers and full dual exhaust, isnt too bad.???

yeah and its got sick ass painted vents and a super sweet monster tach.

i bet all those mods didnt cost more than $350. and the headlights are worse than the OEM ones at producing light.

dont listen to hybrid and his negativity. he's just jealous is all! u got a decent civic.. just slowly start pricing after market products and start piecing together the kinda civic u want. just type in "88-91 civic" in the ebay search and u got all kinds of goodies on there for you :smokin:

What's wrong with painted vents? My car came with painted interior parts and it's still that way. Why? Because I'm generally looking out of the car while driving it... haha.

Dude, there's nothing wrong with your car. Maybe you should ditch that obscenely huge tach though and just get a nice Si cluster and pop it in (be sure it's a 88-89 or 90-91 or it won't work). And stock tail lights are ten times better than altezzas any day IMO...

i buy, fix, and resell cars. i probably would have tried for $350 and ended up paying somewhere around $500. so paying $720 for a personal use car is a decent if not considered a good deal.

it's been my experience that when a header & intake are on a stock engine, the engine has had the piss beat out of it....especially since it is still stock DPFI. with that said + 197K + ticking = not worth fixing. in a perfect world i would suggest slapping in a b series. however, if you only bought the car for $720 i have to assume you are on a budget. i suggest picking up a d16z6 (92-95 Si/EX) or d16y8 (96-00 EX)...they are both SOHC Vtec, bolt right in, & works with your stock tranny if needed. they both will also fit the header & intake that came with the car

doesnt really tick, just like a small belt running noise you know???

amy@af
01-06-2006, 06:08 PM
check the belts then.

if it were me i would just drive it as is until it blows. like i said before, in my honest opinion that engine isn't worth trying "to save" it will end up nickle and diming you.

anybody who has been doing this import thing will agree with me: an engine with "performance" parts and no MPFI is a sadly abused engine. the best upgrade to do first is DPFI to MPFI. the engine is being starved of fuel...those 4 speed Standard civics' were built for 1 purpose: gas economy.

somebody needs to sit down the previous owner of that car and set them straight...friends don't let friends learn from Fast & Furious :thumbsdow
